(Ed's.Note: During the 2012 race for Cameron County District Attorney, Luis V. Saenz criticized former DA Armando Villalobos for confiscating eight-liner machines and then reselling them for a profit. He promised he would destroy them, but then residents found out that Saenz had done the same thing, in one case pocketing $100,000 for the DA's forfeiture fund to use as he wished. This reader questions the DA's tactics and asks: Where did the money go?")

Last week, Cameron County District Attorney, Luis Saenz was saying his department has gathered more than a million dollars from the slot machine parlors that were closed up. Most were paying the winners with real money instead of coupon redeem, as at HEB or wherever is listed on the coupon. It’s illegal in Texas to pay with real money, to a winner.
What happened to the confiscated slot machines? If they are sold where is this money going to?
Could it be if everyone would follow the rules of law to the “T” how many millions of dollars would these 8-liners bring in to our county with these players, permits and taxes? Also more people from our neighboring areas would stir more the other businesses in our community.
If most people want 8-liners in Brownsville, please voice your opinion, Why has this happened that now there are only a handful of slot machines in this town. We the people, have the legal right to bring them back.
Let’s not forget for 2015 if you own commercial properties on Paredes Road Line area the increases will be 185 percent by the Appraisal District of Cameron County. Could it be if the county had more money coming in from these winning machines the property taxes would be less for our community, everyone would prosper.
In the state of Texas the Legislature at the Capital have voted to allow 8-liners, so it is our right to have them in Brownsville. So what is the problem, just follow the rules of law and stand for your rights. We the people should not be deprived of our rights.
Hopefully the Cameron County elected official, will change his mind and allow the millions of dollars to come in to our county to help stop the tax increases on our property taxes, as it is done through out Texas. If things continue, perhaps many will be moving to North Texas and pay less property taxes.

Thats your "BFORE AND AFTER " so you say Luis v. Saenz on your campaigning billboards, say helo to karma Pendejo! "RESPECT THIS, RESTOR YOURSELF "
"We the people" don't have the right to bring them back. It is against state law. It is not a decision made by Saenz or Lucio or anybody else in this county. I wish we could just ignore the laws we didn't like without suffering a consequence, there are a few I ignore regularly and hope to continue to avoid the consequences, but I know it may not work out that way. Like that crazy court clerk in Kentucky should know by now, you don't get to obey only the law you agree with. You want gambling in Cameron County talk to your worthless state senator Eddie Lucio. Convince him how he will benefit and he will jump right on board. Since he is really a Republican, he is in a good position to convince his Republican brothers to go for it. All he has to do is convince all those evangelicas that God left the Valley some time ago and so will not be offended in any way. Of course, this will impact the Catholic Church's bingo money, so the bishop will, once again, make an issue of it but he is only human and there is bound to be a way to get to him.
For alls those that really want to know where this money is at? Look for it on calle Clavel. that's where it all is saenz se lo clavo. end of story.
Los méndigos se clavaron la lana.
I hate to vote, my vote goes into the toilet when i get 2 candidates like a luis saenz or masso and no one else. Why can we get some more choices for the da race? I dont like or trust these two bozos both are a bunch of liars cheats and snakes. So perhaps someone out there in cameron county attorney field can really be a BETTER CHOICE for us. Good day, AR
In lawyers we trust in Cameron County The DA is still investigating the 40 cases of Bud that are still missing.
