Twelve months from now the Brownsville Independent School District will hold elections for four seats.
Here are the Insider's predictions:Otis Powers: Powers will be elected, probably the only sitting member who makes sound decisions
and supports the genuine interest pf student improvement and accountability.
Teachers and coaches always support him for is decency and loyalty to BISD employees.
Katy Presas-Garcia: Katy would do her self and the community a favor by not running. After two terms, a failed lawsuit against the BISD and fellow members, and after supporting the hiring of (Supt. Esperanza) Zendejas whose previous job was a school principal at a charter school in McAllen) without a legitimate national search for a qualified superintendent, she seems to have lost her compass and core supporters. We wish her well but it may be time for new blood to step in. (After we posted Insider's submission, Presas-Garcia let us know that she is running despite his/her assertions. She pointed out that the federal court allowed her defamation lawsuit against Minerva Peña, Cesar Lopez, and BISD general counsel Baltazar Salazar to proceed. As the only one to speak out about the board's corruption, she said it was her responsibility to continue fighting the majority.) 
Hector Chirinos: Chirinos may be the most incompetent school board member that BISD has ever experienced. He resigned under pressure four years ago when he mismanaged the BISD transportation department within the district. He cost the district millions of dollars in waste. He needs to go away. Whoever decides to run against Chirinos will likely publish the infamous external audit that doomed his lackluster career in 2011.
"It recommends similar action with regard to former Chief Financial Officer and former Transportation Administrator Hector Chirinos. The document cites alleged multiple wrongdoing by both – tacit approval of time and attendance violations in the case of Chirinos, and alleged financial management transgressions by Fuller."
Minerva Peña: Minnie is simply a simple person. She never understands any of the complicated issues related to board actions if they are controversial and adverse to her being reelected. On the other hand, she was very keen and participated in hijacking Otis Powers a year ago so that she could become board presidents. The only problem with that scheme is that she didn't understand that she was being used as a decoy by Joe Rodriguez. Joe Rod slipped through the middle, ran over tackle and headed for the end zone with Zendejas riding piggy-back. By the time that Minnie woke up, it was too late. She had been hoodwinked along with newcomers Carlos (Rice and Beans) Elizondo and Cesar Lopez, the TASBO salesman.Carlos Elizondo: Elizondo may be the new Ruben Cortez of the BISD. He may
have dressed up like a crayon during his campaign for the BISD board, but when the crayon melted he ended up wearing a laughing hyena suit. He is currently in the den with Joe Rod, Chirinos and Zendejas negotiating a promotion for his wife, his number one priority. Once a claimed champion for the little men at the fire station against Lonney Lenny (Perez) and Rick Navarro (the hired legal hit man from Harlingen), Elizondo has become the rubber stamp for Joe Rod and Zendejas against BISD employees. His best friends now dub him as the biggest Brownsville political disappointment since Rick Zayas and Ruben Cortez. Most of us Insiders predict that Elizondo will be a one-term member as will Cesar Lopez., just as Zayas and Cortez.
Zendejas has hired the services of George H. McShan from Harlingen to hear and decide Level II hearings for her since Asst. Superintendent Berta Peña voted in favor of Asst. Superintendent Jimmy Haynes. McShan can enjoy the ride for now at BISD taxpayer expense but it won't last long. Zendejas has very few BISD supporters within the rank and file and is hoping for 12 more months before the next BISD election.Zendejas is no stranger to this type of job security and lives and dies by the sword. She knows her days are numbered and with Minerva Peña beginning to gnaw on her, the pressure will take its toll. Hanna teachers will not forgive Zendejas for the recent removal of their principal in support for the most despicable politician in Brownsville: Elia Lopez-Cornejo.

Ever notice how much Dr. Zendejas looks like Queen Julieta Garcia? We can only wonder if Zendejas has the same "Napoleonic" personality as Julieta. We understand that now BISD sends two buses to the International Bridge every day to pick up kids from Matamoros. As BISD loses our to Charter Schools, they seem to be recruiting illegals.
Would this insider like to explain if Otis is such a shoe in how Cata Presas-Garcia beat him in a one on one election some 7 years ago. You never rule out Cata Presas-Garcia - that has been everyone's mistake in the past.

"Now BISD sends two buses to the International Bridge", that is not a Zendejas' directive. Buses have been picking up and dropping off students in this area for years. Don't blame it on Zendajas, blame it on the system and the federal government for the guidelines that they have established. You do not need buses for children from Matamoros to attend schools in Brownsville, go to the schools and check out the license plates of the cars picking up student everyday especially at the elementary level. Many of this schools are in the north side of town.

same school? He just happens to be the husband of one of the board members?

If your parents make a fuss and then accuse the teacher of mistakenly counting their little mijo or mija absente, then if the little darlings can't make up the days in Saturday school or some how else.
