The way we hear it, Harlingen attorney Sonia Herrera was all set to announce against 445th District Court Judge David Sanchez when the Sanchez twins visited her for an hour-long pow-wow and came out at the other end convincing her to run against Arturo Nelson at the138th District Court.
Anyway, that is what the folks over at the county courthouse are saying.
That means that the family-court judge has no opponent and can continue campaigning (against judicial code rules) for his twin brother Dan for the Democratic Party county judge nomination in the March 1, 2016 primary.And Nelson, who wasn't going to have an opponent (like Gloria Rincones, the only choice in the 445th) suddenly finds himself in a race.
And so the panorama changes and the real campaign starts.
Now, if the deal between the Sanchezes and Herrera actually took place, this means that Herrera got the promise from the duo (Judge Sanchez is running unopposed for the 44th District Court) to help her in her countywide race.
This should tangle things up a little more since we know that Sylvia Garza-Perez is campaigning for Eddie Treviño for county judge against Dan Sanchez, and will see Herrera as an obstacle to her efforts.
Meanwhile, in the Pct. 1 commissioner race where there are four candidates, Pct. 2 constable candidate Silverio "Silver" Cisneros has hitched his tar to incumbent commissioner Sofia Benavides. Beanvides has aligned herself with D.A. Luis Sanez, which should put her in opposing camps with Carlos Masso supporters, which also includes Garza-Perez and "Silver's" opponent incumbent Abel Gomez.
A tangled web? Yes, a tangled web, indeed.
Which bring nus to the Pct. 4 commissioners race, the post that Dan Sanchez has vacated to run for county judge.
Sanchez is backing Gus Ruiz against Chino Sanchez (no relation to the portly commish). Ruiz just happens to be an attorney with Judge David Sanchez's Veterans Court, so the relationship is a logical one.
Will the Sanchez gambit to run someone against Nelson backfire? Stay tuned.

Dan "Mr. Morbidly Obese" Sanchez is likely to be a challenge for the county, should he be elected. Doors will have to be widened in public buildings, and elevators rebuilt to handle his girth on a daily basis. Dan is a PIG and his gross physical presence is such that he could never sponsor a "good health" program. Dan Sanchez should not be elected....he's a DICK!

Got my first mail out flyer from Eddie Trevino today. Less than lackluster. "Together We Can" adopt a budget and txrate that is sufficient to.....That means hold on the taxes will be spiking the atmosphere so the proverbial WE can give our buddies another multi-million dollar project for a study that no one needs or wants. Etc,Etc,Etc. More of his hogwash! Problem is Sanchez is no better.
Also got a Merry Christmas mail flyer from Estella Chavez Vasquez, remember she is the one that resigned from the Brownsville City Commission once it was made public that she had moved to Los Fresnos. Such a twit!

Whether the twins coerced her to run against Nelson or not, she has no business running.
