(Ed's Note: Take a close look at the happy couple above. This will probably the last time you might get to see these two on such good terms. Sources tell us that the tender moments of the relationship between former Public Utility Board trustee Emanuel Vasquez and former Brownsville Mayor Eddie Treviño is on the rocks due to what Vasquez perceived as a snub by Treviño just recently. According to them, Vasquez was kept cooling his heels at the former mayor's law firm even after he had voted – while at PUB – to select Treviño's law firm as the utility's legal counsel, a nice gig that pays a bundle. The same souces tell us that despite visiting the office several times, Vasquez never got to see his old pal Eddie. Now we hear that Vasquez is getting closer to Treviño's opponent for the Democratic Party's Cameron County Judge nomination this March 1. That would be Pct. 4 commissioner Dan Sanchez. Vasquez – had Treviño's bid to become Pct. 2 county commissioner had succeeded – would have been his right hand man. Unfortunately (or was it fortunately?) Treviño didn't make it. And if he does make it now, it probably won't be Vasquez joining him at the Dancy Building. Elizabeth "Liz" Garza is the other contender for the office.

Vasquez IS the Kiss of Death. He wants to go back to the days of Lencho Rendon and Solomon Ortiz. The days of You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours but we definitely will not work hard for Cameron County. Vasquez comes from the school of we will make deals in Austin, China, Corpus Christi or anywhere but Cameron County. With Vasquez at Sanchez side Sanchez shows his desperation or something else. Trevino is pure greed and ethically challenged . ....he is, after all, the slimy bastard that brought the plague known as "United Brownsville " down on the taxpayers of Brownsville . He also came up in the Villalobos trial and not in a favorable way. Weasel -faced thief can't be trusted.

One way to end the compadre all boys club is to elect a woman. Liz Garza is a fresh face, unconnected, has a vision for the county and has stated that transparency in government is important. So far, she's got my vote. Mr. Sanchez' sarcastic attempts at humor at the expense of the needs and complaints of constituents, use of county resources to announce his candidacy when he was supposed to be honoring veterans demonstrates disregard for the rule of law, and his flawed reasoning in discussions brought before the Commissioners Court makes him ineligible for my vote. Mr. Trevino apparently feels his past performance in office qualifies his to lead the County and doesn't have to articulate a vision. He's a "back to the future" candidate who will not get my vote either.

Liz Garza better help Dan in the runoffs vs Trevino . She will need Dan's political influence if she ever wants to win in Cameron County .
