COLD AND SNOW STRIKE THE NORTH, AND IN BROWNTOWN...

By Juan Montoya
We got word from relatives up in the Midwest that there was some snow cover and that a frigid front was making its way across the northwestern half of the United States toward the east, we witnessed these scenes on Christmas Day in Brownsville.
The long line of American White Pelicans feeding in the Town Resaca near the Old City Cemetery that morning was a sight to see. So were the colorful blooms of these flowers captured along one of the downtown alleys and sent to us by one of our readers. (does anyone know the name of the plant? As close as we could come, they are called coyoles locally.)
If you look at the pictures closely, you will notice that local Sabal Palms, Washingtonians, and oleanders (still dark green) in the photos. We probably won;t escape a few cold blasts as we make our way into the new year, but for now, the sights and temperatures we enjoy are the envy of other locales.
