After we came across this Facebook posting by Republican sheriff candidate Victor Crotez, we were left scratching our heads at what he could have been trying to say.
To begin with, Cortez came in second to former Indian Lake Police Chief John Chambers even after Crotez played an active role in having Chambers indicted and convicted of tampering with government documents over firearm certifications of his police force.
Cortez was chief of the Public Integrity Unit of the Cameron County District Attorney's Office under Luis V. Saenz when several investigations were initiated against the police chief.
And when Chambers went to trial, Cortez was seen huddled close to DA investigators and Ass. DAs assisting them with his prosecution even as he campaigned against him for the GOP nomination for sheriff.
That didn't sit well with many "faithful" Republicans who considered Cortez a Victor-Come-Lately and though of him as really a Republican In Name Only.
In fact, the timing of the Chambers trial seemed suspicious since it ended on January 18, just a month before the beginning of early voting in the primaries that started February 16-26.
Still, Chambers beat Cortez 3,395 votes to 2,662, a 733 vote difference.
When he thanks "faithful" Democrats that crossed the aisle to vote for me" is he poking fun at them?
Then he thanks the "Millenials and finally to all the republicans who supported emd vote for me..."
If Democrats crossed over and voted for him, does that mean that they will also vote for him on May 7. And even if they do, will they make up the 733 vote difference he lagged behind Chambers?
This might be wishful thinking on Cortez's part. We'll see this coming May whether his prognostications bear out.

Why would we waste our vote on John Chambers. Omar Lucio is an old fart who should go home to mamma and leave the office for younger, more lucid people...but as long as the Reyna brothers control him...he will linger. Lucio needs to be replaced but only Cortez has the credentials to be Sheriff. Chambers has not credentials and has proven that he can't be trusted to watch the hen house without manipulating the paperwork.
This is why this county is an embarrassment to the state. How can you vote for a convicted and sentenced Canidate who can not be sheriff, even if he was elected. It's a wasted vote.

To the uneducated, dumb or just don't care voters of Cameron County! Really, you vote for a candidate who was convicted in court by his "PEERS! Sure it was politics but John Chambers committed a violation of the law, investigated, arrested and Indicted which Chambers in turn felt he could be adjudicated in a court of law but NO! A sitting judge would not risk being in bed with the DA to get a conviction just for politics. If an appeal court overturns because of an obvious screw up on the judge, then that judge will be in hot water depending on what it was?
What I am saying is that John Chambers got convicted on 14 counts, not half or just one but 14! All the jury of his "PEERS" had to do was find him guilty on one count!
As an American, you are given a privilege to vote for your candidate but you have to use some common sense when doing so! You wasted a vote whether you really believe that he was the best candidate.
The problem is an egocentric person thinks he deserves to be elected because of who he is friends with. Victor cortez fabricated a case with the help of his compadres to eliminate the competition. Mr chambers represents all of us who are victims of bullies

WHAT HAPPENS THEN... DOES THE COMMISSIONERS COURT GET INVOLVED IN FILLING A VACANCY? CONSIDER THIS...CHAMBERS IS TECHNICALLY AND LEGALLY THE SHERIFF? WHAT ARE THE LAWS, STATUTES AND STATES CONTITUTION MANDATES FOR AN ISSUE LIKE THIS? WITH THIS WIN BY CHAMBERS LEAVES LUCIO OUT OF A JOB? I DON'T THINK THAT THERE IS SOME LAW THAT STATES THE THAT THE SECOND RUNNER UP TAKE ON THE SHERIFF SLOT? THIS IS NOT A BEAUTY PAGEANT...IF THIS HAPPENS DOES THIS LEAVE THE SECOND MAN IN CHARGE OF THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE NOW THE GUS REYNA BOY? He was RECORDED breaking the law and committing felonies! He did it, and he was lucky they didn't charge him with more. He's abused his power in Indian Lake and picked on little old ladies- and these idiots want to support him?
And let's not forget his use of democrats on his campaign and giving out cash cards for supporting him.
