The organizer of the private dinner party at Ramiro Sanchez's spread out on Paredes Line Road in Los Fresnos meant it to be a braking of the bread for peace between different factions of Cameron County Democrats.
But alas, just as the peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis, it hit a snag.
Sources say that the peace entreaty was the brainchild of District Judge Migdalia Lopez and that Cameron County District Attorney-elect (for another term) and County Clerk Sylvia Garza-Perez were the main belligerents at the table.Sanchez, where campaign pachangas for Saenz and Garza-Perez have been held an where both candidates rallied the troops, seemed to be perfect neutral ground for the peace parley.
However, according to those privy to the results, Saenz was having none of it.
"It is what it is," he said in his best Popeye impersonation.
Saenz is said to be smarting from the support that Garza-Perez gave Saen's opponent Carlos Masso in his last two elections to that office. With Saenz still harboring that grudge, Lopez's olive branch dried on the vine.
"Luis doesn't seem to get over over the fact that people can support anyone they want for public office," said a party loyalist. "Just because someone didn't support him that doesn't mean that there will be an eternal war between people."
Others point to the lifelong friendship between Masso and Garza-Perez stretching back over the years even before Garza-Perez was a candidate for county clerk.
"Masso supported Sylvia in the past and they have been friends for a long time," said one. "She supported him because they knew each other since way back.
Now that Saenz has another for years in office and no Republican opponent in November and Garza-Perez is in her first full year of office, will the grudge wither away or will the "V" in Luis's name stand for vindictive, as some of his critics have asserted?
