Varius Sources.
Get ready for Round 2 in at least a few races.
Neither Dan Sanchez not EddieTreviño were able to garner the 50 percent plus 1 vote required to avoid a runoff. A surprisingly strong showing by Brownsville attorney Liz Garza upset that finish.
Treviño's 12,935 overwhelmed Sanchez's 10,705 while Garza's 5,769 forced it into a runoff.
In the new County Court-at-Law #4 race, it will be Sheila Garza Bence (9.614) against Dan Robles (7,854) in the runoff. Carlos Monarrez and Rene Gomez trailed behind.
Likewise, in the County Court-at-Law # 5 race, a surprising Estela Chavez-Vasquez (11,168) will pair off against Jesus "Chuy" Garcia (8,266) who edged out Noe Robles (7,897).
And it was another squeaker for incumbent Luis V. Saenz over two-time challenger Carlos Masso with Saenz getting 14,648 to Masso's 13,856.
In the race for county commissioner fpr Precinct 1, incumbent Sofia Benavides (3,392) will have to face off first-time candidate Beatrice Rosenbaum (2,335). Benavides narrowly missed the cut, garnering just a little over 49.22 percent. Fausto Martinez and Joseph Cantu drew enough votes from the front runners to force the runoff.
In the commissioner for Pct. 4 race, lawyer Gus Ruiz easily defeated Basilo Sanchez. The winner in that race will replace Dan Sanchez on the court. Dan Sanchez, who will face Eddie Treviño for county judge, was allowed to remain as a holdover until a new commissioner was elected in the primary.
In the Pct. 5-3 JP race, Mike Trejo (4,668) easily beat Juan Vargas for that seat (1,653).
Meanwhile, in Pct. 2 Constable race, it will be another showdown between incumbent Abel Gomez (4,866) and Pete Avila (3,706). Juan Torres and Silverio Cisneros brought up the rear.
And Democratic Party chairman Amber Medina (15,530) easily beat Erasmo Castro (9,679) for that position.
Incumbent Sheriff Omar Lucio easily beat Gregorio Puente III and State Rep. Rene Oliveira and State Sen. Eddie Lucio easily beat off their challengers.

What about izaguirre getting over 10,000. ? How soon people forget ? Former mayors who did nothing for the city and those who won't go away. Ay compadres!
No tight race Saenz whipped his ass !!! Over 750 votes !!! Sylvia eats shit !!!
Rosenbaum lost by lots and lots !! Sofia is the queen !!! She will smash Bea !!! Que verguenza !!!!
see folks the old Hinojosa /Rivera/Garza Perra does not work here !! we are tired of the corruption that they bring to the campaign... Como les quedo el ojo !! even though they put others to run against sofia she whooped ass. good things are coming !! and the sweetest victory is LUIS SAENZ !! end corruption...
Isnt hinojosa backing Trevino after all are they or were they law partners at one time who is in the county judge runoff, so all was not lost last night folks, pay attention, cant believe that lair lady lawyer got lots of votes after she was discovered to live in los fresnos and not in Brownsville, wow , yes people forget very easily. And as for sofie, well got to work a little harder girlfriend to get over the hill, adios cca
yzaguirre is a loser , corrupt to the core... many people just filled in the circle... but lots left it blank !! he is done... 30 thousand plus votes and he only gets 10 ... he is NOT wanted any more and after the courts are done with him , he will disappear with his ass in the grass.....
It looks like nobody forgot Gilberto H. and blamed Dan, or the people didn't like his thumbing his nose at resign to run, or they didn't like him hijacking events for political purposes, or they didn't like him wearing a campaign button at commission meetings, or they didn't like Dan.
Sweet victory for Luis, stay sober or else.
Juan, the elections are over. I am surprised at your low key summary of the election results. But honestly, I was getting overly tired of your Luis V. Saenz bashing.
Juan you are very disrespectful to our district attorney it was for this reason that we decided to vote for him. !! How about them apples !! Watch yourself cuz you ain't getting any breaks for the bashing you along with Masso and Sylvia were so sure of your victory !! The people saw thru the smokescreen Masso is a crook and Sylvia is an idiot who committed suicide to her re election bid !!! We saw her true colors she is next to be voted out stay sober !!!!
So very true, masso is a crook.
Look into his so called associates.
And Sylvia is just plain stupid
Lol
SYLVIA YOU ARE NEXT. ENJOY WHILE YOU CAN. WE KNOW YOU'RE CRYING 96 TEARS. LOL.
It's crazy that yzaguirre can even run. fuck his lying corrupt fake ass. he is going to get away with nothing put a tarnished name and continue to still from the city and do anything to benefit himself. fuck off
I marked Yzaguirre's name off the ballot. I agree 100% w/ the comments above me. He is a shame to our county and to add to that, he is gordo. jiji
HA Montoya! Luis Saenz won! So much for your attempt to push your buddy, Carlos Masso!
Now, CC voters! You need to vote Dan Sanchez as your county judge! Eddie Trevino is a "snake" and he will try to fuck all the females he can since he is divorced and we all know why?
Vote De Coss because Gloria Rincones will be another Elida "Cornhole" on the bench, making stupid rulings and pushing her weight.
vote DEEZ NUTZ
Jessica Tetreau and Cesar de Leon sure have a lot of time to endorse candidates and attend their events but they don't have time to answer their city paid phones.
Sylvia's compadres are being voted out one by one. Ernie, Erin, Rivera, Masso, and now she and Abel are next. I can't wait!
Don de Leon should invest some money in chalkboard signs instead of having to buy new ones for all the different offices he runs for. I hear now he's running for president! Dry erase might work too.
i hear Cesar "el joto en el closet" De Leon is gonna have opponents. lets all see what happens... Lets see what happens.. exciting.
Don is a much better candidate than the ones that he lost to.
Amen!!!
Nombre.. Don Deleon es primo del joto de Roy De Los Santos.. puro bullshitters.
¿Que tiene que ver que Don Deleon tenga un primo?
