If you were former Brownsville mayor Eddie Treviño, you are praying it does not.
Treviño is in a runoff with Cameron County Pct. 4 commissioner Dan Sanchez for the position of county judge.
It's a position that Treviño is somewhat acquainted with.
Six years ago, when he was vying for the same seat, Treviño was in a runoff with former Pct. 2 commissioner John Wood. Trevino came very close to winning the primary race with 7,846 votes, or 50 percent over Wood's 5,476 votes, or about 35 percent. Treviño found himself 2,370 votes over Wood.
Miraculously, Wood ended up beating Treviño 4,958 votes compared to 4,536 votes, a 422 vote difference.
Of particular note here was the number of mail-in votes that went to Wood. During the first race, he got only 53, compared to 279 mail-in votes in the runoff, representing an increase of more than 200 percent.
In the first election, Treviño received 138 mail-in votes, and 180 mail-in votes in the runoff.
Since the 2010 – and particularly the 2012 – elections, the Texas Attorney General and the United States Asst. Attorney General have prosecuted many of the so-called "politiqueros" and "politiqueras" engaged in the harvesting of mail-in votes from the elderly in day care centers. As a result of these prosecutions, the number of mail-in votes have dropped off precipitously.
Now Treviño's supporters are saying that the former mayor is not taking anything for granted, even after having beaten Sanchez 12,935 to 10,705, a 2,230 vote margin. That is only 140 votes less than his initial superiority (2,370) over Wood in the 2010 primary.
Can Sanchez pull a Wood-style comeback on Treviño six years later?

Sanchez missing, being late or leaving county commission meetings on 8/7/14, 9/4/14, 9/11/14, 10/30/14, 11/3/14, 11/6/14, 11/20/14, 12/30/14, 1/26/15, 1/29/15, 2/12/15, 3/30/15, 4/9/15, 4/13/15, 4/23/15, 5/4/15, 5/7/15, 5/21/15, 8/7/15, 9/3/15, 9/10/15, 10/6/15, 10/8/15, 11/3/15, 11/12/15. Dan Sanchez missed 13 of these meetings completely. He was late or left early or both to another 13 meetings. He did not make 26 complete meetings as a commissioner. He takes credit for spacex but was chicken shit to vote when it counted. thats not a leader
The times have changed. Do we really want a 400 pound Sasquatch to be County Judge. He might eat the entire commission just to get their seats. The county can't afford to feed Dan Sanchez and we will need a church pew instead of a chair for to fit his fat ass on the Commission.

I had not met Dan Sanchez until recently. He and his wife are out where people are gathered. They both make very good impressions and I have decided to vote for him.

He has already thrown his support to the CRRMA agenda of building major road projects in support of the growing Hidalgo County interests. I'm voting for Eddie. Say what you want and call all the names you want, he's at least come out against a 10 yr. tax abatement from the LNG crowd. At least he took a stand - no politician doublespeak like his opponent.

You can't judge Trevino because Rivera & Sylvia the Clerk are supporting him; however, as someone who supported him and helped him during peimary, I can say I didn't even get a thank you from Trevino. On those long hot days while campaigning not even a glass of water was given to us. Never did Trevino stop by and shake a hand. Obviously Trevino is looking to win for his own reasons and not because he cares about the comunity. If he didn't care for those who helped him do you think he cares about those who don't. Dan good luck! Remember those who go to battle you.
