By now you probably know that the most closely-watched race (that is , if you're not a candidate in the others) is that between former Pct. 4 commissioner Dans Sanchez and former City of Brownsville Mayor Eddie Treviño.
Six years ago, when he was vying for the same seat, Treviño was in a runoff with former Pct. 2 commissioner John Wood. Trevino came very close to winning the primary race with 7,846 votes, or 50 percent over Wood's 5,476 votes, or about 35 percent. Treviño found himself 2,370 votes over Wood.
Miraculously, Wood ended up beating Treviño 4,958 votes compared to 4,536 votes, a 422 vote difference.Now Treviño's supporters are saying that the former mayor is not taking anything for granted, even after having beaten Sanchez 12,935 to 10,705, a 2,230 vote margin. That is only 140 votes less than his initial superiority (2,370) over Wood in the 2010 primary.
But just as Sanchez got third-place finisher Liz Garza to endorse him with her 5,000-plus votes, Treniño's former nemisis Wood has come out swinging against his candidacy in an ad placed in last Sunday's Brownsville Herald. In it, Wood extols the pary faithful to consider Treviño's lukewarm support for the eventual Democratic Party candidate (Wood) after the former mayor lost his 2,370 vote advantage from the primary.
In the ad, Wood chastises the former mayor for supporting a charter amendment that would have allowed the commissioners to set their salaries which the voters defeated in the charter amendment election.
Wood also goes on to point out that after Treviño had appointed some members of the PUB board, they returned the favor and made him PUB legal counsel.
We also understand that Wood was the first of many other local residents and leaders who will endorse Sanchez in the coming weeks before the May 24 runoff election.
Will Treviño be able to hold on to the core group of Brownsville voters who assured him the runoff spot in the primary?
Or will Sanchez, who is making inroads against that base be aided by the historical drop in voting percentages in runoff races to wrest the Democratic Party nomination for judge in November?

What does Chuy Garcia have to do with Eddie vs Dan? Only thing I would see similarities on is that Eddie and Chuy are supported by same group which Sylvia is part of.
Everybody see the "coconut" Edna Tamayo put out a letter of support for Eddie Trevino. Not surprising that Tamayo supports very suspicious Eddie Trevino since they are Establishment lovers that control and dictate Harlingen politics.
