It took a jury just a short time to find a Brownsville man guilty in the 2013 beating murder of Servando
 Betancourt Jr.

On Thursday, the jury convicted Ramon Alberto Gonzalez Quiroga of capital murder.
State District Judge Janet Leal, of the 103rd state district court, sentenced Quiroga to life in prison
without parole.

According to Brownsville Herald archives, Betancourt’s body was found Aug. 23, 2013, inside his
Southmost home on the 2900 block of Sandia Street. Several of his personal belongings were missing,
including his 2003 Ford Escort.

The vehicle was abandoned in Mexico and found a few days later in a Matamoros impound lot.

A forensic pathologist testified Betancourt died of blunt force trauma, sharp force trauma and
ligature strangulation.

A second suspect, Federico Hernandez, is scheduled to go on trial later this month on charges of
tampering with evidence.

A third suspect, Ricardo Mendoza, is believed to be hiding in Matamoros.
