HOW ABOUT BISD CANDIDATES BEING TEACHER 4 A DAY?

(Ed.'s Note: One of our three readers has a suggestion for the 19 candidates to the four positions on the Brownsville Independent School District board of trustees.
What would happen if all those interested in running for school board had to volunteer XXX number of hours in the classroom in order to qualify as a candidate. The volunteer time would have them assisting a teacher, covering lunch and bus duty and hosting a Parents Night. Maybe this way they will better understand the real needs of today's classrooms. And in case they don't win a spot on the board, the volunteer time "doubles" just to ensure they continue supporting teachers, students and parents as their campaigns promise.)

BISD needs people who understand managing a large corporation/business. They have only two duties make a budget and high a Superintendent. Otherwise it is just oversight. Some of the worst board members are former educators.

Great Idea

Nope. Any sort of "exposure" to our great students of most of these unqualified candidates will not only stunt their education, but give them the worst of role models. Argelia Miller? Not a colege graduate. Rigo Bocanegra. Huevonisimo! Need I go on, Juan? Por favor. Valgame.

At least one of these candidates should not have any contact with children or teenagers. We don't want criminals for candidates.

College.

I bet Argelia knows how to spell college, but we need people on the board who have experience in education, not those who are comadres de la comadre. Who are Josette Cruz and Jorge Valdez? Have they been thrown in there to upset the vote or are they real contenders for BISD Trustee Position 3?

Juan a $500 million plus budget is not chicken feed, really you need business or management educated people in there to manage this kind of half a billion dollar annual budget correctly and not put money into their compadres pockets, that's the trouble with many of these so call wana be bisd candiates, " we are here for the children? really? NOT many are in it for rewards, money, greed or in some cases revenge-ask judge elia cornwall lopez. i see this in all parts of the RGV not just Brownsville. Just my 2 cents (dos centavos) worth. College? With Brownsville Mexicans we'll be lucky if they graduated high school. They're not very academic people, unless they're figuring out how to move drugs, commit crimes, or knock up 13 year olds. Oh, and game the welfare system. Forgot about that one!
