TSC BOARD OF TRUSTEE ISSUES STATEMENT ON TERCERO

"On Monday, August 1, 2016, the TSC Board of Trustees voted 5-1 to give President Lily F. Tercero formal notice of termination, and placed her on administrative leave pending a dismissal hearing.

Mr. Mike Shannon, TSC Vice President of Student Services, will serve as the interim President of TSC.

"We have full confidence in his leadership abilities," said Vice Chair Trey Mendez. "Mr. Shannon possesses many great qualities. Among them is his ability to motivate his peers and work tirelessly on behalf of the students in the TSC district. He is the best person to lead TSC during this transition."
"At this time, we cannot discuss details of the investigation performed by independent counsel," Mendez said. "However, it was clear that the institution needed a change in leadership."

Tercero has served as President of TSC since October, 2011.

She helped guide TSC through its separation from a partnership with the University of Texas System, and most recently helped the college obtain accreditation from the The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges ("SACSCOC"), the regional body for the accreditation of degree granting higher institutions in the southern states.

"Dr. Tercero has given many years of service to the district." said Adela Garza, Chair of the Board of Trustees.

"However, it is time to move forward, and we ask that the community continue to support the college. Every board member wants what is best for TSC, and we will continue to work to grow the college and fulfill our mission to provide affordable high quality education to all students."

If this guy Shannon can motivate his peers and work for the students, he is what TSC needs. TSC has not had that up to this point.

The end is near for tsc. It has been a sad slow death. The only winner in this demise is UT.

Is not, it will thrive once they put a good president in place

As a former TSC and UTB employee and a friend of many past and present faculty members at both TSC and UTRGV, I agree that it is time that we move in a new direction. TSC, unlike UTB, has deep roots in the community, and it needs strong effective leadership rooted in that same community to save it. I know that some of the community have lost faith, but this is the time to pull together for the good of our community. There are many superb faculty at Southmost, but leadership has been a problem at all levels. Those teaching are professionals with advanced degrees in their respective fields, and they deserve to be treated like it. Micromanagement is never a good idea when you are surrounded by qualified people who know more about what they are doing than you do, and that has been a problem. "Canned" teaching materials simply stifle the rich diversity of experience and expertise that the faculty offers. We don't need to take a backseat to anyone in meeting our community's needs, needs which were sometimes forgotten during the so called partnership. Viva Brownsville, Viva Southmost College! Let us foster a rebirth of the spirit that once animated all of us involved in the great enterprise of meeting the needs of our diverse and underserved student population and return TSC to its place in the State of Texas and the nation. The embers of our proud heritage have not yet expired; they await only a steady hand to stay the course and return us to our former prominence in the field of education. We need to be innovators and leaders as well as students of best practices and how we can best employ them with an eye to our unique community. Keep the faith!

Trey is the root of the problems at TSC. How do you feel now idiot. You created an incompetent administration, lost the Nursing Program, lost how many professors and staff members ? and now TSC is a college for morons that can't read nor write at a college level. Great Job pendejo. Who are you going to blame now ? Kiko?

Texas Southmost College is the legacy for Brownsville, for that reason, it deserves better. I don't know how someone can wish bad because it will serve the future nurses, technicians, mechanics, etc. We all need them and UTRGV is not going to give the community those programs. Unfortunately Dr. Tercero was not prepared for such a responsibility and does not have any love for the community because she is not from here and she got in bad with all the faculty with her micro-management . I wish her well but she was not good for TSC. Now there are very good people in the board and can get the right president that will bring progress. Long live TSC!!!! the college where some of us started the education journey and many young students will start. Let's get the programs back to 100% passing rate, we can dot it!

BISD modifies their school schedule so that their dual enrollment students (about 20) can graduate and walk with the TSC'S class that's pathetic
You have 1 semester with 80 days and one with 70 days so that a few students can make it to commencement for an associates degree in nothing. It shortens one semester and puts pressure on students and teachers for the well being on a handful of non college ready students earning or receiving an associates degree what a JOKE!

Fro day one I never trusted the harpy of Tercero, I met her during the transition progress and on a job interview and she always looked like a self-serving piece of garbage.

She hired several of her croonies and brought a private company to manage their IT division when she coulf of picked up staff from UTB who already had a foothold and experience. She hired inexperienced personnel and put them on high ranking positions and her micromanagent style brought administration and payroll problems. All she did was waste money and degrade the institution. I am amazrf she lasted this long so good riddance for bad rubbish.

He won't motivate. Nor does he have the education to be in that position. I'm sure he fed the board a bunch a lip service and will just turn around and do his own thing. Typical of him and he is not respected and was just the goon who protected Tercero's bad decisions. He is in part to blame for Tercero's bad reign. He will tell you what you want to hear in your face, and turn around and do another thing. The board needs to clean house with admin and they need to start with Shannon because he was Tercero's sidekick all along and fed into the problems the college has. The board is a bunch of PENDEJOS for believing that guy. He's a smooth talker and will tell you what you want to hear and act like he is helping but only look after himself and his self interests.
