SIXTH ANNUAL FREDDIE GOMEZ CONCERT PACKED THEM IN

(Ed.'s Note: No, they weren't riding bikes or running shoes, but the hundreds of conjunto aficionados who showed up to listen to the new generation of  virtuoso accordionists and bajo sexto players were there to enjoy the home-grown talent in the footsteps of the late Freddie Gomez, known as "El Huracan del Valle." Accordionists as young as eight years old to 90-year-old music promoter Luis "El Squeezer"  Garcia were part of this multi-generational mix who enjoyed the acts late into the night. The celebration of this music that had its genesis right here in deep South Texas has grown to be an internationally-recognized festival much as has the Latin Jazz Festival that is held in October. Congrats to Timo Ruedas and Lupe Saenz of the South Texas Conjunto Association for keeping this tradition alive.)
