EDINBURG – The University of Texas at Brownsville misused research funds and over-reported state benefits how.
Because UTB has closed as an institution, however, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, which succeeded UTB, made the reimbursements, forcing the new administration to divert critical funding from the fledgling university.
The audits, conducted by the UT System, resulted in the discovery of the misuse of federal grants totaling $1.9 million by the Center for Gravitation Wave Astronomy during a period of six years. A second audit uncovered $2.9 million in state funds for over-reported benefits in the appropriation years of 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
“Both of these issues were brought to our attention out of the closeout activities for UT-Brownsville,” said Guy Bailey, president of UTRGV.
UTB was dissolved in 2015 along with the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg to pave the way for the creation of UTRGV, a university that now encompasses the two campuses and others around the Rio GrandeValley.
UTRGV paid off the debt in full, Bailey said, because it inherited all of UTB’s and UTPA’s assets and assumed full responsibility for its liabilities. But the move also was made to salvage relationships with federal and state funding sources that are essential for future research funding at the new university.

For those who persist in doubting the wisdom of the separation of TSC from UTB, this should be a valuable object lesson. Sooner or later, officials would have detected the problem, and under the Partnership, who can doubt that City taxpayers would have been stuck with the bill? Anyone who was on campus prior to the breakup knows full well that UT was exploiting our local taxing district shamelessly. It is true that all is not sunshine and roses at the resurrected TSC, but good things take time.
Where is Julieta??? Is she still hiding out in the office space provided by Mayor Tony Martinez?? Both Tony and Julieta have let the community down.....Julieta for letting the university fall, and Tony for just being an incompetent asshole. Tony bet our tax dollars on Julieta and LOST!!!!
Ya, cabron. dejala. Que, eres un Macho muy Macho, o que? Avientate, joto! Te agarro a patadas, desgraciado!
Julieta laughed all the way to the bank. Hispanic female of the year and this and that award and at what cost? Nos chingo!!!!!
SUPER BITCH! HOPE SHE SLOWLY ROTS FROM THE INSIDE OUT! HOW DO YOU STEAL FROM YOUR COMMUNITY'S EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES? SHE DID IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN!
But the Mayor believed in her a wasted millions of our tax dollars to buy real estate that, for the most part, sits empty/abandoned. Others believed in her until UTB fell apart, all her promises were found to be hollow, and in the end she walked free and rich....from out tax dollars. She and Mary Rose Kardenas, Julieta's mentor in managing other people's money....what crazy women. They are out riding their brooms this month....if they can find brooms with enough magic to lift their fat asses.
This administration of Juliet was a case study in favoritism, misfeasance and malfeasance. Her chickens have come home to roost.
Mexican leadership, in action. It took Americans to step in to clean it up with UTRGV, as usual.
How much had TSC paid out to UTB and how much did
UTB not pay TSC in backrent all to the clever language in the contract authored by Rene "La Rana" Oliveira?

As far as I Know, the "Mexican leadership" is totally American born, raised and educated.
If you really think "unbiased" then like "orange man Trump" said "I was very smart" for getting away so many years and not pay taxes.
Those you call "Mexican leadership" only learned the American way of taking advantage of the less fortunate (called dumb and idiot by some).
The "local Mexican leadership" only practiced what they learned from the white man. Want to lead, succeed, well, smash on the little guy, even if the little guy is someone from your own race.
Curious. I wonder who Mexicans learned to be losers from in Mexico?
Oh jeeze..Browntown is the poverty, ignorance, and corruption capital of America and it is all the gringos fault? Stop whining Mexicans, step up, own up and clean up your own shit.
That $5 million cheat caught by auditors is not even a tenth of the story.
Meanwhile, the perp-in-cheif sits in an empty office, with a Supranos style pay/no show, collecting $1 million for her part in assisting the loss of Browntown's university to Edinburg. And we wonder why the nation thinks this place a cesspool.
Latina of the year? hell, of the century! (at least to the white masters)
Do you think she'll attend the 50th high school reunion of the 1966 Brownsville High School Eagles? I doubt it.
I heard that Julieta is still on the UT system payroll, basically doing nothing. Also, the UTRGV has turned out to be disastrous for Brownsville students. The UT Pan American crowd basically runs the UTRGV, with the President (Bailey) pretty much AWOL. The Brownsville college students would have been better off with the old UTB remaining---but with different leadership. If anyone wants to check, I have also heard that UTRGV is hemorrhaging students, losing several thousand (not to graduation).
You think it monitors the blogs and their comments?
Folks, let me clue you in, Julieta Garcia is waiting on the sidelines for a Democratic party win of the presidential election in November. A big appointment, her circle has learned, is likely coming her way.
