With the retirement of presiding municipal judge Ben Neece after more 32 years on the bench, the City of Brownsville today announced that municipal court attorney Bobby Lerma was appointed to replace him.
City Manager Charlie Cabler made the announcement and said Lerma would start immediately as interim presiding judge. Former 445th District Court Judge Rene De Coss will start as Associate Municipal Court Judge at the beginning of the year.
With Neece's departure, Cabler also took the opportunity to replace interim court administrator Tad Hasse with Roberto Baez Hasse, the former court's IT specialist, has been at the position since Baez was placed on suspension with pay following an attempt by Cabler in league with other administrators to place the municipal court administrator slot under the city manager with expanded powers when Neece was absent for a 10-day period earlier this year.
Cabler sent out a directive telling city administrators and employees that he was expanding Baez's duties and placing him under the city manager's office. However, after Neece returned, he contended that it was up to the presiding judge to name the court administrator who would be under the Administrative Service Director/City Secretary.
Upon Neece's retirement, Baez was placed back at his former position of court administrator.
There has been no word on any probe into the reason for his temporary suspension and whether the issues behind it were investigated by the judges or the city administrator.

Get a job, Hasse! LOL
That shows how stupid and incompetent Cabler is. An administrator should not be over a Judge! Baez is the biggest ass kisser in the City and Cabler the idiot who signs everything you place in front of his face. The ACM Michael Lopez got in trouble for this move. He's a total idiot too for this move, should've been fired!
That's nothing. Look at the fiasco with Ramiro Gonzales now at the HR department lol. Pobre vato thought he was gonna get a job elsewhere and submitted his resignation then the job didn't materialize so they rehired him. Same pay doing less work. How's that for taking care of the citizen's money?
San Benito and BROWNSVILLE have the same PROBLEM.MAYORS AND COMMISSIONERS that FORGOT THEY WORK FOR THE CITIZENS THAT ELECTED THEM. ILL SENDING THE TAXPAYER'S MONEY AND NO ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THOSE ACTIONS.
Great Job Tad! You rock!
Pura quacha
Ramiro Gonzalez actually got a big pay raise and less responsibilities. Puras transas
Juanito no te hagas el pendenjo...The Báez & Neece incident happen a month ago. For whatever reason, you decide to stay silent or your city minion spies were on vacations lol Mr. Baez is back as the sheriff and there's nothing Neece can do about it and Tad Hasse doesn't have the balls to fight city hall lol I do feel bad for the city employees who deserves raises and then you have people like Baez who barely has two years with the city and getting promoted and getting a nice salary. Don't forget Cabler got a huge raise...he makes more money than the Texas governor. That's life in the city for you.
Everything that was done, was at the direction of the city manager. Weakminded employees fear to speak up when asked to do what they know is wrong. People like Charlie surrounds himself with weak minded individuals who will do his bidding.
Pat get it over, you aren't anymore the mayor
Cabler is in charge of the city
Weak minded employees were also to blame for your checks or what Pat? You're the number one traza person in Brownsville. Puros cheques y maquinitas. Fucking rat.
You must have been there to accuse him STUPID
Ramiro Gonzalez so call resignation was only a smoke screen to get him a bigger salary. Now, the city created a position that did not exist or needed to justify his big increase/non-deserving raise. This guy has not worked since he got hired other than ass-kissing the city politicians. The city will now have to hire someone to take his old job att the planing department, What a waste of taxpayers monies, puro pinches ratas de dos patas.
Anonymous 2:47 pm, you have one thing right and that is Charlie Cables is in charge of the city and look what we got? There is no one on the commission to be the check on the city manager who in my opinion has turned out to be nothing more than a corrupt opportunist who manipulates and controls by preying on weak minded and eager city commissioners who have no clue what they are supposed to be doing on the commission.
And yes, weak minded employees like Pete Gonzalez is the blame for the check that was used in Cabler and former police chief Carlos Garcia attempt to frame me, because I was an obstacle to Cabler, Atkinson and others to do what they have been doing that is illegal, improper, unethical and just plain wrong, starting with the illegal city manager's contract that goes against city charter, cost over runs at the sports park with unauthorized expenditures that were covered up, hiring of individuals to suit Atkinson's wants, real estate purchases over market value, and mismanagement in many levels by a team that Atkinson refers to as knowing how to play ball.
Anonymous, you harp on the check as if I took it, but either you are stupid or you are one of them writing to attack my credibility, because you need to ask Pete Gonzalez why they destroyed government records when they shredded the log that would show who picked up the check you accuse me of stealing? They destroyed the log, I didn't. It is a fact stated in court that I had never set foot prior to the allegations in the Finance Department office. I did not have the log shredded and I did not take the check. The weak minded Pete with Carlos Garcia and Cabler pushed to have me framed, because I was not there team player that Atkinson wanted.
I know where some of the skeletons are, perhaps Atkinson will respond so we can write more about some of those skeletons. So, hate me all you want and accuse me all you want to deflect the corrupt practices carried on by the people you elected and a city manager who is like J. Edgar Hoover that controlled people by giving them the rope they need to give himself control over them, but they could never control me.
After all who stood up for you against Imagine/United Brownsville, high utility rates, Tenaska, unwarranted real estate purchases and who served as the buffer to keep things in check, it was them for sure. It was the team I am accused of not being able to work with, because I preferred to work on the citizens team by doing what was right or can you attack my policies and find benefit to me for those policies?
I speak out without fear, because I stood for something and that was good and transparent government, which some of you do not like.
Fucking Roberto Baez is a hug ass-kisser. That's what he's been doing at the city since he got there at the HR department. Can't even speak English correctly but thinks he can be a director. Pay attention who he hangs around with during lunch and you can figure what he's planning next. This guy can give classes in brown-nosing!
Get Sossi on it! Bwaaahhhh!
