FLORA QUERY: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT KID OF TREE THIS IS?

(Ed.'s Note: One of our three readers is attending school in Houston and sent us a photo of a draped in Spanish moss and asked if we knew what kind of tree it was? We guessed that it was some kind of cypress, although it was just a guess. Does anyone out there know the true species?)

mesquite with cob webs

The tree is mesquite and the "musgo" is probably placed there and just starts reproducing.
If you go to the Santa Anna Refuge there are A LOT of trees along the trail EXACTLY like the one in the picture with the Spanish moss.

A really sad looking tree. Lets call it a Tree-o Sadd-0.

You should post photo close-up of leaf, bark or fruit if any for more positive i.d.

For sure it is not a mesquite. A mesquite that tall would be much larger in diameter. Also, the leaves don't look right for a mesquite. Likely some kind of oak.

Looks like a common Hanging Moss Tree. Very common in Louisiana
