Apparently, Saenz believed that as city commissioner, De Leon could not handle cases in municipal court and could not represent defendants who had been arrested, questioned or charged by officers with the Brownsville Police Dept. It came down to a choice between his profession and the position of city commissioner.
Additionally, there is an ongoing investigation into a criminal complaint filed by the firefighters' union charging him with Theft by a Public Official after they discovered that there was more than $8,000 missing from the group's Political Action Committee bank account. Bank statements indicate the withdrawals were made by Elizondo from ATM machines over two years.
The recordings are said to have been made by Elizondo, who was trying to get De Leon to protect him in the city and to withhold the release of an audit done by the commission's Audit and Oversight Committee. The secret recordings were leaked to social media after Elizondo was demoted as fire chief and the audit report was made public soon after that.
Rather than endanger his law profession, De Leon opted to resign and remove that conflict and focus on his legal work.

Leave pay or without pay?
Okay if Elizondo's on administrative leave is he getting paid? Who in the City placed him on administrative leave? Cabler is on leave...did he arrange this before? WHO is making these decisions? Perfect for Elizondo. He gets a vacation from his so called job. Elizondo disappears for hours from his job and no one says anything. No one makes a report. It seems like Carlitos made a pact with the devil.

That is what the city and its staff thinks of you. Get him off the website as quickly as possible and declare City Commissioner AT LARGE A VACANT. We are carefully looking at BISD's Board next move in regards to Carlos Elizondo. Elections are around the corner, can't members of the Board see that Carlos has become a LIABILITY and a MAJOR DISTRACTION to the Board and District as a whole. With everything hanging over him and all the bad publicity citywide he can no longer be a positive influence. On the same note, give his wife her walking papers as well. She is her husbands No.1 enabler. She doesn't do her job attending students and is constantly on the phone with non-school business and is very difficult to work with. Is extremely arrogant.

Mr. De Leon, Now that you are out and gone when will you leave town, You have dishonored your parents, your self, and your city followers. although it was not entirely your fault, as you got set up by your business partner (Armando) your mouth fell short of slowing down when referring to everyone you knew and felt was lesser than you.
