For the past week, investigators for the Brownsville Police Department have been searching for the driver of the red Mercedes left parked at 235 Sunset Drive.
According to police, officers were chasing the car after it was spotted traveling at a high rate of speed down Palm Boulevard, and then in attempts to elude them, drove over the side of the road, caused some damage to shrubs and other objects before coming to a stop before the house of Leo Lopez and 357th District Judge Elia Cornejo-Lopez at 235 Sunset Drive.
However, no one knows who was driving he vehicle, despite the fact that the license plates are listed as a state official, i.e., a state district judge. Police have refrained from releasing the police report or to speculate about who the driver might have been. Neighbors say that the car has moved only once since, on Monday, when it was then parked in front of the house.
By late Friday afternoon it was reported that the Mercedes was gone from in front of the house.
Until the whereabouts of the driver and his arrest, the police report will not be released and details of the chase or other particulars will remain unknown.
A similar incident was reported in late June involving the judge's red Mercedes.
At that time, officers of the Brownsville Police Dept. impounded the red Mercedes-Benz SUV registered to the district judge after it allegedly was involved in an accident this past weekend and the driver abandoned it without leaving any contact documentation.
The red SUV vehicle then was the same as the one above and was reportedly is registered to Cornejo-Lopez who said someone was driving it without her authorization and left it on the northbound frontage road between Boca Chica and Price Road after the mishap.
It was impounded by the P.D. where a VIN check indicated that the vehicle was registered to the district judge.
As we are in the Halloween season, will the phantom driver of the red Mercedes also vanish in this latest incident?

This is not to difficult to figure out. It was probably just one of her kids who used it without permission then got scared when the cops got involved.
I tried that same story when I wrecked my parents car at age 14. It didn't work then and doesn't work now.
Either her Honor or her hubby is driving drunk and does not want to take the weight. The Cops will continue to wink, nod and give the folks a pass, as this is Browntown and it is all about palanca.
No fucken integrity. but she jokes about how her daughter has 2 personalities and wants to be a stand up comedian!!
This "Phantom Driver" is not going to vanish --- She weighs tooooo much!
Do NOT be blaming her kids Maybe It was CESAR DE LEON!!!!!
Sounds like Elia is protecting her teenager(s). In the past she tried to use her official position to cause BISD to give special assignment to her teen, even though that teen didn't comply with BISD policies. Elia surely thinks she is above the law, and now is acting like Aurora de Garza in protecting her "special" babies from being held responsible for their actions. Obviously this car issue is minor compared to Aurora's son stealing hundreds of thousands from a hospice.
If this was the car BPD was chasing, why didn't they impound the car or put a wheel lock on it. Was it that they were afraid of challenging the judge.
Elia, when will this end?
YOU are quick to criticise, demean, judge and hand down sentences.
How about taking care of things at home first? How about teaching YOUR kids to respect the SAME laws YOU expect others to follow and live by?
Shit lady, you are stupid for thinking that anyone is buying your B.S.! Work on YOUR SPOILED ASS kids.
A que pinche gorda. Cuida tus pinches animalitos de mierda!
It’s testicular cancer awareness month at the Brownsville Police Department. I imagine the cops down there going to be too busy checking their nuts to solve any crime this month.
Diego, LMFAO
Bobby WC
Brownsville has a double standard and the police chief has no problem with it and is blatant about it.
Hey Bobby,
At least the cops have balls. Oh, and they aren't ripping off the VA with made up diseases.
POBRESITO.
What ever happened to the investigation where someone claimed they had seen a brown SUV picking up the judge on the frontage road after she had an accident and ran - oops, she can't run! Who was the other phantom driver in the brown SUV. Rumor has it that it was a BISD school board member. Now, who was driving the red Mercedes that seems to get in mysterious incidents by itself. Elia thinks her shit does not stick and that she and her family is above the law and no one can touch them, just like the one in the brown SUV. Oh, yes and I almost forgot, Aurora who covered up for her righteous son who stole from terminally ill patients. These are the leaders of our community so what can we expect from those they are suppose to be models for - even their kids who feel they don't have to follow BISD policy.
Se creen bien chingones.
She is covering up for her child but what will happen this too is swept under the rug until her kid wrecks and kills someone just watch by then it will be too late
LOL! Atleast De Leon admitted his wrongdoing.
Not this family!
Chief Rodriguez will instruct his officers to look the other way like he has done in the past. He is nothing but a puppet for judges and city commissioners.
Purro APB APB. CALLING ALL CARS CALLING ALL CARS.
Damn Chupacabras!
Um, BPD is able to intercept stolen cars headed towards the bridge, and they can't intercept this one?
It doesn't take a detective to figure out, it's the judge, or a relative. Cars need a key to turn on. That's pretty smart thing though, to abandon ship before you get pulled over. Stop blaming her kid. i don't think she can drive that fast and furious. Elia will never admit it that it's her own doing.
If our police chief wasn't selective, he would do like he would do with anyone else or at the very least, impound the car and site the registered owner for all the offenses committed by the driver, including reckless driving, speeding and endangering the public. The car is a lethal weapon that should not be left for unauthorized persons to use at will.
