Four days after At-Large A City of Brownsville Commissioner Cesar de Leon turned in his resignation after racially-loaded remarks he made in a private conversation ignited a firestorm and some called for him to resign, he has changed his mind and said he will stay on as city commissioner.
The city charter gives him eight days to rescind it and it was not official until the city commission had accepted it during a regular or specially-called meeting.
Sources at the City Secretary's Office confirmed that De Leon had gone there and asked that they return his resignation letter.
The commission is scheduled to have its regular meeting a week from Tuesday and De Leon is expected to attend as a regular member of the city commission.

Demonstrates that the Brownsville City Commission will continue to deal with a racist, a negative mark for us, if Cesar de Leon is allowed to represent this city. Cesar de Leon no longer has a "conflict of interest" and that being a racist commissioner remains in his best interest. Cesar de Leon is a racist and a bigot and he should leave the commission. My guess is that Tony Martinez continues to support this bigot and is willing to accept racism...a scar to this city. So sad for this city...to accept racism when this nation is trying so hard to get rid of bigotry and racism.
We hope you have learned your lesson, unfortunately, it had to be the very hard way. Please stay away from shady characters like the Magallanes, Hinojosa, Elizondo. They are not your friends. Juan is behind the messaging, its not that he guessed it or his years of experience told him what would happen. It was all those silent dates with no updates, Juan and the De Leon team were planning on how and when to rescind the resignation (once a quitter, always a quitter).

After Mr. De Leon resigned we felt that the community had spoken and were staunchly against racism towards minorities, principly (BLACKS). We were ready to let it go, for community stability. No one wants protests in their backyard or national attention regarding racism but, that is what you have. A racist City Official who refuses to properly apologize to the people harmed by his comments. So he recinds his resignation..can't this person see the writing on the wall. This individual is asking for negative national attention and you know, he is about to get it. Our organization in conjuction with Washinton D.C. and State legislatures fight racism of any kind everyday, everywhere. We are thousands strong in all 50 states and we make a very strong presence where ever we go. Brownsville is in our itinerary, see you soon. We were advised to keep up with your blog and we will.
Way to go, we are glad that he decided to continue his tenure as a city commissioner. Cesar De Leon has done an excellent job thus far and we need him to continue working on getting so much corruption eradicated from the city departments.

Student's graduate from college and the last thing on their list is to come back home. For what!
