Special to El Rrun-Rrun
From the get-go, educator Eva Alejanadro says she is not running against anyone on the Texas Southmost College board of trustees.
"I'm running to represent the voice of our community college district residents," she said. "I'm not running against the incumbent for Place 6. I want to do the best for our students and the district taxpayers."
That seat is currently held by dentist Dr. Rey Garcia. TSC trustee positions on the board are for six years.
If educational background is one of the qualifications required of the candidates for TSC trustee, Alejandro has plenty.
Ahe was born and raised in Pawnee, Texas and attended Bee County College, a comunity college similar to TSC.
She then attended and graduated from Texas Woman's University (1971) in Denton and taught in the San Antonio public schools where she became Education Coordinator for Head Start.
She received her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education and moved to Brownsville in 1974 where she was employed by the Brownsville Independent School District and taught at Cromack Elementary in the Southmost area.
Three years later, in 1977, she was hired by TSC to initiate the Child Care and Development Program. She was responsible for attaining and enhancing this program, a successful endeavor that continues training students there.
In 1979, she was hired by Pan American University-Brownsville to supervise student teachers. She became tenured and taught at UTB for the next 20 years.
Then, in 2002, she was one of the founders of Alternative-South Texas Educator Program and eventually became sole owner of the educational firm for the last 14 years.
The TSC election is in May 2018.

TSC doesn't need anymore educators. They need a damn saleman to make some damn money out of their damn Amigoland shopping center. Imagine the air conditioning bill there just to keep Irv Downing and BEDC's ass's cool while they sit in their luxury offices. What is wrong with this damn town?
Chiquita....
If she was an educator, it stands to reason that she does not have enough money to go
to Edwards Photography and get a recent picture of herself. Some vote because of the picture the candidates use to introduce themselves to the public and you later find out it is someone else who actually won - not the one in the picture. Of course, a picture does not make a good politician, but when you hide behind a picture you are liable to hide behind other things. Everyone that runs will say exactly what she is saying she wants to do and then all of a sudden they forget their promises and concentrate on their pockets.
She is awesome. I would vote for her anyday.
She is a great educator and a would be a good influence on the TSC board.
The TSC board does not listen to educators. Why else would they not provide the teachers that are needed at TSC who actually instruct the students with new knowledge and not a repeat of what they already know. This goes for UTRGV that sends out teachers who have the slightest idea of what a real classroom is about nor do they teach the major things that a teacher is expected to know as soon as she or he steps into the campus - no training, no identification of all the tests, etc, programs no one knows what they stand for - acroymns
are fast and furious and no one knows what they mean.
