PUB PRIMER: TWO WORK IN THE HOLE, SIX IDLE SUPERVISORS

(Ed.'s Note: It's called the Brownsville PUB for a reason. Old-time city employees and elected officials say that instead of Public Utility Board (PUB), the acronym stands for Primos, Uncles and Brothers with an occasional sobrino, compadre, or cuñado thrown in. In the photo above, there are at least six men standing outside looking down at the two workers in the hole (also looking) repairing a water line.

It was a little chilly this morning, so we can understand why a few of them have their hands in their pockets.

About the only one, aside from the backhoe operator, who is performing some function is the guy directing traffic. That's 10 workers and one broken line. Or perhaps the guy with the "Slow" sign is directing the PUB workers at what speed they should work?

A wag commented to us that the PUB logo is very apropo in that it shows not six, but 16 dots circling three wavy lines representing running water ( a broken line, perhaps?).

If that is the meaning, these guys in the photo at top are slacking off. They need at least another six. Now, if they had shovels, they could lean on them to make it appear that they were doing something.)

This scene if often seen in the community. One question here, is there anyone in charge??? This is symbolic of the way business is conducted throughout the city of Brownsville. Lots of people drawing a check, but no supervision in sight. The mayor has his head in the ground as this city swirls down the toilet. Mayor Tony Martinez is an arrogant and self-serving man who, like his buddy Barack Obama, has done nothing productive during his tenure. Promises not kept, goals not achieved, no jobs other than service jobs, and lots of vacant property that he bought to save Julieta Garcia....and that failed too.

Good one, Montoya! Primos, Uncles and Brothers jijiji. Mi carnal jalo en el PUB and they had loooong lunches, jugaban baraja, tokeaban, se echaban viejas, took long breaks and they covered each other's butt, like working at the courthouse. Como dijo de Leon, "mientras no hagas pedo" you can work there for a looong time. Un dia torcieron al carnal when he was giving some mojaditos a ride. He said he didn't know. Puro pedo. He got ahead of himself y no se mocho with the bossman

Then we wonder why Mexicans are stereotyped. First, a Mexican at the helm ruins the caldo.
Next, son una bola de flojos! Then we deny it. It is evident that a Mexican se le va a
la cabeza cuando es el a quien lo ponen de mandon y no manda. And when he or she does,
le hechan y le hechan.

Reciprocating give and take it takes two to tango mutualism one good turn deserves another return scratch

cronyism
the situation in which someone important gives jobs to friends rather than to independent people who have the necessary skills and experience

Cronyism is rampant in the north but no gringo is going to talk about this. They rather talk about somebody else doing it.
The stupid Mexican likes to burn each other thinking they will look good upon the gringo. You never will.

Very easily to criticise when people see workers standing around looking at other workers do the labor work. Every worker has a title responsibility. Sometimes when excavating trying to get to the problem, workers end up with many conflicts. It sometimes takes more than one to make critical decisions to get running water without interruptions. So people that like to criticise, stop and ask what's going on before you judge and I bet a supervisor will be there to address your concern. Maybe you'll learn how water gets to your home.

I only see two pub safety vests in the pic. The others must be employees of a private contractor.

Has anyone ever considered that each of these hardworking gentlemen has a particular job duty and he cannot perform his job until the other gentlemen in the hole has completed their job. Based on any construction job one trade cannot take over until the first steps are completed correctly. I see a lot of complaining of the public, but what has the public done to help the community? We see children and young teenagers out vandalizing community properties, sliding on skateboards across benches (Lets not forget that Brownsville has a skate park), and tons of individuals who are illegal dumping trash, and individuals that have seen it and not reported. We the Community must do our part in making our community a better place to live, it's not only the obligation of our elected officials, city and county managers.

They are probably chatting about their city commissioner who made racist remarks about two Cameron County Assistant District Attorneys. Saying, "Why doesn't that pendejo resign." Saying, "If it were one of us, we would be fired." Saying, "Why does that asshole mayor support this racist pendejo."
Saying, "Does anyone know who our supervisor is today."

I agree with THAT the operation OF PUB projects always seem to require layers of supervisors and foremen, etc.
I tried going home at 5PM going west on Wild Rose Lane to reach Honeydale to
find all the equipment and crews blocking the route to honeydale. When I turned to get on wild rose (coming from Central Blvd.) , there is no signage
to show that Wild Rose is closed. Also, there was one to wave you and ask you to reverse back or whatever, although there was plenty of well abled men at the project. I finally starting honking for some direction or intructions.
Finally a person came out to wave me away.

The other side of Honeydale was marked as "ROAD CLOSED"...GREAT !

! WHAT A CIRCUS ". NO ONE SAID THE C8IRCUS WAS IN TOWN.

That's because your town IS the circus.
Hahahaha

The outhouse is in front of that yellow thingy and there are two workers using, well you know what. Why are they all wearing white hats? Where are the yellow hats?

A typical day in Brownsville, besides the "hoy no, manana si" quote, we are known for, another out of towner asked me, Why are most of the men in this town with their hands in their pockets when they're at work? wow, had never noticed that.
