AND G.M.S. WANTS CITY TO INK ITS $60 MILLION CONTRACT?

(Ed.'s Note: Now operating on a month-to-month basis, GMS Waste Disposal has been after the city commission to grant it its usual five-year, $60 million sweetheart deal that was in the past supported by former city manager Charlie Cabler and recommended by Purchasing Dept. Director Robert Luna.

But with scenes like the one above all too common and business customers downtown complaining about the service, it is doubtful that the commissioners will succumb to its entreaties. The revelations that Cabler had gone to the GMS well repeatedly (23 times in two years) for contributions to his City Manager's Golf  Tournament and Youth Sports Assistance Fund indicated a relationship that smelled of a quid-pro-quo for the company t keep its lock on the business and industrial waste management contract with the city.

Usually, after one of these scenes made the social media cyberpages, the company will scurry to replace the containers. It happened downtown before and it will probably happen again. Until there is a solution found for this, expect it to happen again.)

Not sure who pays the GMS bill for that rusty container, but there is surely no oversight....someone just doesn't give a shit! Does anyone in this city government actually give a shit????? You can blame Charlie Cabler as long as you want, but he is gone (maybe no free of charges, but gone as city manager) and still no one seems to see the things like in this picture. What about the GMS drivers....can they report this; and if they report it does GMS act. Maybe we should have some public meetings and argue whether to remove this rusty eye sore and public nuisance; or perhaps move it to another less visible location. If this were along a bike and hike trail, Rose Gowen and her allies would have taken action. If this was beside of Tony Martinez's law office, it would be removed. But, this trash bin is invisible to city officials, and only the 7 readers on this blog can see it.

If a GMS driver tries to pick this up, the bottom and all the garbage will fall on the ground. So, the driver just leaves it. Sort of a "don't ask, don't tell" situation in Brownsville.

The solution is simple, DO NOT RENEW THE G.M.S. CONTRACT. There is a local company, Redfish Recycling, who has turned in a proposal to the City of Brownsville for commercial trash service. They are offering to invest over $8,000,000 in new dumpsters and trash trucks to help beautify Brownsville. In addition charge much less than G.M.S. Now is the time to make a change!

GMS is from Laredo. They stole the company from a family in Brownsville. F U GMS!!!!!!!!

Redfish Recycling is a locally owned company. We are a subsidiary of Marck Industries. We have 11 locations throughout the U.S. and one in Monterrey, Mexico. We have over 20 years’ experience in the waste management business. We are probably 3 times the size of G.M.S. If you would like more information on our company please contact me at 956-299-8025.
