(Ed.'s Note: Motorists along 12th Street (Sam Perl Blvd.) were witness to the latest expenditure of public funds to make Brownsville "bike friendly." Literally millions of sales tax and general fund monies are being spent with reckless abandon on some of our major thoroughfares.
Sixth and Seventh streets have been narrowed and bicycle rubber bumpers installed. Today, 10 city workers were put to work to make commissioner Rose Gowen's dream of putting down the rubber bumpers for the bicycle trail from the old bridge all the way to Levee Street a reality. What will buses do when they have to pick up passengers along this route, ride over them? It will only be a matter of time before an accident is caused by someone losing control of their car when they hit one of those rubber bumpers.
We don't remember many bike riders along this route, except perhaps, for guys from Matamoros who hunt for carton for recycling sale in the city's alleys. What will Rose do next? The folks working at the Cameron County Courthouse on Harrison Street already have to deal with reverse parking and a one-lane reduction to allow for bicycles after turning the street into a one way.The change has caused great inconvenience for drivers who want to get into and out of the courthouse on business. How long is this stuff going to continue. How about solving drainage problems, preventing flooding, or installing sidewalks and bus shelters in our neighborhoods?)

Chisquida is such a great adjective
Brownsville and the rest of the Valley regularly top all lists of "most obese populations in the Country" and yet you're crying about a Commissioner who wants more people to ride bikes to and from work and around town? You realize that's exercise, right? You should be advocating for this type of change to help better the overall health of the Community. Yet
you whine and cry about change that doesn't favor your liking.
"When will it stop?!?!?!"
Yes Juanito, when will the epidemic of obesity that is plaguing the Valley stop? Great question.
Backwards parking at the Courthouse?
Noooooo!
You realize most normal people DO NOT hang around the Courthouse like yourself. Most normal people don't tend to worry about a parking spot they will only need perhaps once, twice or maybe three times a year at most.
A bit of advice Mijito, grow up, act like and adult you're a old man crying out loud try to act like it.
What an excuse for a elitist politician that caters to the rich but not famous citizens (because there are none here). We all know that this is the only country in the world that has the majority of its citizen FAT. "THE COUNTRY" not the RGV like you mention, yet I don't see other politicians yelling that this is an emergency. You are the only one and we know why. There are no statistics that verify your claim. Even if you are correct it is not your responsibility, when there are more pressing and important project that will "BENEFIT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY". You are in line with most politician that their only goal is to benefit them self.
Yes the valley has the most (not obese)but corrupt politicians in the country. You forgot to mention that small detail. I wonder why?
There is a large number of citizens that read this blog on a daily basis like myself. Most if not all are registered to vote. Most if not all like to read the latest and Juan does this job very well. YOU like that idiot president will NEVER stop the news.
What you need to do is your job to represent ALL citizens. You will not be there for very long. Remember you are there at the courtesy of the citizens of this community.
MIJITA act like an elected politician not a sellout cronyism advocate.
Do you or the commissioner ride your bikes to work? If you work five or more miles from work, how long would it take you to get there and how sweaty would you be? Do you need to wear professional attire? What roads would need to be traveled? Are they bike friendly? What would one do when it is raining, cold, or ridiculously hot? Would one need to drop off children at school? Can one do that on a bike? The parking at the courthouse is
backwards, poorly planned and poorly executed. Your comments are unrealistic in a real life world. Get off the RG bandwagon.
You realize most normal people DO NOT hang around the Courthouse
wow what is she saying? So the people that do what are they? Wow when I go anywhere in my car I do worry about where I am going to park my car. Oh I forgot they drive bikes. NO wonder...
Mijita think before you type.
This would be a great idea if people actually used the trail and protected lanes! However, people do not and this is not a case of if you build it they will come, people in Brownsville just don't bike. It's too hot and humid 3/4 of the year to do so. When has Gowen ever biked to work, how about el pendejo de Ramiro Gonzales?
If there is such a clamor for bike lanes in Brownsville, why is it that I always see the same handful of people with expensive bicycles and gear at the meetings concerning bike lanes? Why don't we ever see the poor masses yearning for bike lanes? Because they don't!
Your editorial is completely off the mark. The President of our community college requested that the changes to Sam Perl be made. In addition to potential student safety, why would you criticize a change which allows the many bridge walkers and riders to have a more safe passageway to shop in our fine city.
Finally, the idea that the poorest amongst us, that unlike you, HAVE to ride there bikes for work, or walk to work as they do not have a car, would be safer by taking a 3 lane road, with little vehicular traffic on it, and allowing for a safer route is hard to understand.
You should limit your comments to your rich and affluent friends who apparently own cars, care not about health, our poor, student safety, and go through the day happy that we are FAT and happy.
Ramiro Gonzales can't find shirt that fit properly, always seems to be choking at the neck. Maybe he needs to ride a bike along with la chisquiada!
Why do the hike abd bike trails have shelters? I rum on them daiky and have never stipped at these "shelters" they allow public fornication and places tonloiter/ smoke out and perverts to sit and stalk the runners. Those shelters/ bwnches/ canopies would be better off at the city bus stops! Amen. Have never seen a cyclist or higher stop and rest at these damn awnings.
Being fat is not a crime and it's nobody's business specially politicians that want to benefit at the expense of others. It's better to be fat and sane than being a moron, stupid and irrational.

Are you trying to imitate a student at the local college, because if you are you are doing a piss poor job. Sounds more like a supporter of la chisquis.
The majority of the voters in this community would rather see infrastructure improvements, street maintenance, traffic improvements such as coordination of signal lights to ease traffic congestions and dissolve the motorcycle crew, assign them to do real police work.
Bike trails should be the last thing on any elected city official. Nobody want them, nobody uses them and its a waste of city funds.
Dress professionally???? I don't think so!!! The mayor surely does not believe in that and is suppose to be the true role model for the city. We need to a "Go Fund Me" fund to buy him some new clothes and maybe he can sell his old worn out perodos blue jeans he never takes off and his sleeveless jacket that stinks and looks like an old man that doesn't take a bath.
Maybe domingez can give him a jacket and jeans.
Chisquis does not own a bike, can't balance one much less ride one. She only advocates for bike trails just because her elite friends wanted to ride their fancy colored bikes with their fancy colored outfits wear those pretty colored little tennis shoes (oh so cute). Payasos
go fund me for Da mayor Martinez? fuck that puto
She should be flying a broom not riding a bike.
