(Ed.'s Note: Everyone's wondering whether City of Brownsville Commissioner Rose Gowen will ride on a carbon-monoxide spewing automobile or ride a health-conscious bicycle this year on Charro Days. Gowen, who has single-handedly funneled millions of local resources toward the construction of hike and bike trails and has had the city fund her Farmers' Market, rode this car last year.
Will she put her money (we don't think so, not her own) where her, ahem, ample seat is, or will she remain true to her convictions and pedal her bike as a show of healthy living?
On the other hand, she might get the smart idea of putting bike lanes on Elizabeth Street so she can ride her bike down the main drain in future Charro Days parades. We'll soon see.)

Charro days should be held on the bike and hike trail for her. Charro days has been dying, due to the isolation and stupidity of our elected officials in the city, county, state and federal levels. Keep it going city commissioners.
Hope she rides a bike and she wears really small/short shorts. Better post a pic of her if she does, Juan!

Millions of taxpayer monies wasted on useless bike lines. When will uncontrolled spending come to an end? Why not spend the money on bus shelters, sidewalks, street improvement? The city has extensive bike trails and parks that are poorly being maintained due to lack of manpower and equipment, where's is the fiscal accountability?
Polemica? No has visto el incremento de trafico en las calles a causa de los carriles para bicicletas? Si tanto cree ella en carriles de "bike", como escribes tu no muy educado/a en "spanglish", que lo demuestre ella por ejemplo propio en el desfile. Que se monte en la bicicleta sin asiento ! Puro fierro!
She will ride a bike only if it has a tractor seat for her big ass. Commissioner Gowen has worked very hard for bike/hike trails and big bike bumps along the streets. Yet we see few bikers downtown in those bike lanes...unless Gowen closes the downtown are for her bikes. Rose Gowen is interested in few policy issues...she will follow the direction of Tony Martinez in real issues...and his lack of leadership means little is done.
Why has Commissioner Gowen said nothing about the racist that sits beside her, Commissioner Cesar de Leon...a living bigot and racist. Both are pawns to Tony Martinez and he is possibly the worst mayor in the last century.

Shame on us for reelecting her. Her only priority is making more useless bike lines in the downtown area. Just recently, anybody noticed how Meixco Blvd was reduced to make room for bike lines. We got what we deserved, uncontrolled spending of tax dollars for pet projects that nobody needs,
Her bike is at the new pawn store on Price and hwy 77. She needed the money for her tricycle.
Este " desfile " no ha tenido exito por varias razones entre las cuales se enecuentran las siguientes:
a) Lo hacen en plena cuaresma es decir no estan respetando los tiempos, todos los carnavales deben de ser hechos en un
tamporada que se llama Carnestolendas lo cual sirve para divertirnos en exceso antes de que llegue la cuaresma.
b) El clima no es muy propicio en febrero.
c) Los ultimos Mr. Amigos no han sido nada populares, a excepcion de Pedro Fernandez.
d) La tematica de Charros, Adelitas etc debe de ser cambiado por algo mas acorde a nuestra situacion geografica.
