The Brownsville Career and Technical Education Department is described by the Brownsville Independent School District as a tool to "prepare students for career pathways in the global marketplace by offering experiential learning, post-secondary credits and industry certifications. Students will gain technical and high-level academic skills, leading them to be lifelong learners."
That sounds like a worthy endeavor. But what happens when the choice ends up being someone like Dr. Juan Chavez who is not seen by the staff at the department as the best choice, but has been seen hobnobbing with board members on fishing trips?
And female BISD staffers say Chavez is the best candidate to be the "#Me Too" poster child of the district.
After the last administrator left, the district appointed Adrian Dorsett as interim director, a position he has held for the last three years. Under Dorsett's direction, staff members and district administrators have lauded his performance and say he has "brought back Career & Technical Education Dept. to what it used to be..." since the last director retired. Some call his performance "brilliant."
But then, after interviewing potential applicants for director since last year when Superintendent Esperanza Zendejas stopped the process, interviews were reinitiated this year. Last Friday night she chose Dr. Juan Chavez which she will recommend to the board tonight.
And what makes him the super's choice over Dorsett,a proven quality? He has been seen with Joe Rodriguez on fishing trips. Yeah, that's the way sausage is made at the BISD.

Little does she know he is aligned with SPA, Castro and the Valdez brothers. All of them working to get her fired. It'll come back to bite her in the @$$.
Since when does zendejas choose the right candidates for upper level administration? Look at BLA. I mean, really look at it. That school is supposed to work hand in hand with CTE, but the administration is a group of people that do not have the best reputations in dealing with at-risk populations. They turn the kids off and ruin that program. Or, is it Sylvia’s fault they are there since they are loyal to her? Either way, the superintendent is responsible for her appointments.
Dorsett is on the board for Workforce Solutions Cameron and works closely with its director, Pat Hobbs who everyone hails as the guru for job skills and training. The last thing we need is another administrator who is too busy kissing ass and not doing what’s right for kids. Bravo superintendent. Way to keep Coach Joe happy.
Will zendejas tenure last? Will there be a new majority come November? Joe Rod, Cesar, Carlos, and Minerva are all up for re-election. Do you want another 4 years of favoritism and backroom deals with z? She has surrounded herself with people who she thinks are loyal, but play both sides. We all see it, but she’s too busy maneuvering and manipulating to see it herself.
Remember Judas, Dr. Z? She lives alive and well in your office every day. Do what is right for the district. Hire the most qualified people for their positions. Stop moving people around who are doing well at their campuses. Quit showing favoritism to employees who are related to political figures. Resist doing favors for the board. Who are you and what do you really stand for? Obviously, not for the kids or community of Brownsville.

Take some time to meet Dr. Chavez. You will see that he is a man of substance. In fact, you may find that you all have a few things in common as it relates to struggling for a higher education.
Oh yea another Joe Rod appointee. The current interim for the past 4 years has worked hard but nope, here comes the Dr. who has been moved around and had some flings. All is ok for the coach. Folks, no one hires in bisd for work. Its familia or board buddies. Keep the circle all board related. Look at the auditor guy...shady flings but the best choice. Another grievance to be added to the pile.
Maybe Elia Cornhole Lopez could run BISD more effectively and efficiently than the current Board of Trustees and the current Superintendent. Our kids are the losers to these power mongers and money grabbers.
Dr. Juan chavez, a true gem and a person who really knows CTE, will do an amazing job.
Esme's rubric for choosing the new CTE Director evidently did not include having the students and employees best interests at heart, other wise el gallito would not have been chosen.

El Doc was given a favor. So now the interim did all the work and the doc slides in and now cte is the best. A lot of folks applied to take over what the current interim has built. Everyone knows A D is CTE. This is how BISD works. The HR Dept is all for show and have boggus interview committees. Let see who is awarded AA for HR?? Maybe JJ.
I am truly disappointed in that Adrian was skipped over for the position he is doing so well in and clearly loves and knows what he is doing. I am also disappointed if this blog is true about it being a favor for Coach Joe. the more I ready and listen to people, the more I think that Coach Joe is really making a mass in the district and for Dr. Z who is trying to do what is best for the kids. If so, someone needs to talk to Coach Joe about retiring NOW. It does seem like he does have a lot of power in those old bones of his and making hell for Espy.
Pull the Blinders off. EZ is part of the 1/2 billion dollar scam that is the bisd.
Adrian Dorsett is an amazing and gifted educator. As usual BISD makes the wrong decision. I hope AD finds a fabulous job somewhere where he will be appreciated.
