The son of Brownsville Navigation District Place 4 candidate Javier Vera has been caught violating Brownsville Independent School District rules on the improper use of internal school mailboxes for political purposes.Rivera High School Principal Norma Jean Canales issued an email warning to all school administrators, staff and employees reminding them that use of the boxes to stuff political campaign literature was against district policy approved by the BISD board of trustee.
Javier Vera, Adan's father, is running for the position left vacant by Carlos Masso. Steve Guerra and Los Fresnos resident Patrick Anderson are also candidates for the position.
Additionally, they said that Adan Vera had used school property (i.e. paper and copying machines) to reproduce copies of several campaign leaflets in support of Javier Vera's candidacy to the port seat.
That seems to go against the BISD policy that clearly states that unless you're the U.S. Postal Service, you cannot stuff school internal mail with political literature.
"No officer or employee of the district may knowingly use or authorize the use of an internal mail system for the distribution of political advertising..."
"Political advertising means a communication supporting or opposing a candidate for nomination or election to a public office or office of a political party, a political party, or a measure that:Appears in a pamphlet, circular, flier, billboard or other sign, bumper sticker or similar form of written communication..."
There is no indication whether Vera's actions will result in a write-up or in further discipline.
"Mr. Vera is a grown man who knows better," said a Rivera High School teacher who sent us the photos above. "If this is the type of behavior his father taught him – to break the rules – I don't think we need that kind of public servant. We're deeply disappointed with these types of tricks."

Just another reminder of the culture of corrupt politics in BISD and the RGV. Let's hope BISD deals with it seriously. The baseball coach probably wants his players to play by the rules in their games; so he should play by the BISD rules. Let's hope a reprimand is coming to him from BISD. Let's watch his demeanor on the baseball field and see if he follows the rules. I won't be voting for his dad....so he lost one vote already.
Norma Jean is in violation of many things going on at Rivera HS. If Mr. Vera use school supplies this isn’t the first. Ask the school secretary. She has taken many supplies from Rivera while she has been there. Norma Jean allows clerical
Staff to make up time while they have been out all day, but then at the end of the week have their 40 ours with no days docked or taken from their time. Staff clocking out at10pm under no supervision. So before you target Mr. Vera, look into the the stealing that is going on with time sheets.

Wow, someone finally did something about it as Norma Jean, for this has happened before and pushed under the table. Depending on Young Vera's personal record with BISD and his conduct, he will be handled accordingly.
All of us make mistakes and we must learn from it. I am sure he will never do it again! Kudos to Norma Jean, for she is following policy and is doing her duty to report it - she obviously knows that this is not allowed and if she did not report it, her position would have been in trouble. More power to administrators who insist on doing what is right and proper. And little Vera, you fell, get up and apologize and go on being a great teacher.
And Trump is worried about leaks. Juan certainly has a lot of dedo's running to him.

As a retired educator I find it hard to believe this young man did not know what he was doing. This is not what we need anywhere in our town as a leader. What a disappointing post.

Mr. Vera did not have any bad intentions with distributing the flyers. He was simply trying to help his father. Who has been dealing with the passing of both of his parents. He clearly was not aware of the rule bisd has in regards to the campaigning. Whoever took this picture and is making those comments obviously has malicious intentions. If you’ve ever exchanged words with Javier Vera, you’d know he is one respectful and honorable man. He is loved by everyone and in my opinion he is THE MOST qualified candidate for the position as Port Commisioner.

As an individual who encounters Mr. Adam Vera frequently i feel confident in saying he is an individual of profound character. Not only is Mr Vera a coach but he is a life teacher and an individual who uses his knowledge and experience to aid and supplement as well as council students who trust in him. In all reality we live in a very unperfect world where mistakes are made. We live in a country where so much animosity surrounds the leader of our country and vulgar statements he makes. Rather than slandering an individual for his mistakes it should be used as a moment of teaching. The intentions that Mr Vera had were in no way incorrect. This goes to show the immaturity of who took their time to slander Mr Vera. Adam Vera is a man of profound character and a man with a good heart and always positive intentions. In all reality this mistake is being used for political advantages and in every way biased.

Adam Vera is a very respectful and awesome teacher. It’s sad that people have to put it all over social media. If it doesn’t involve you why are you posting it? Let him be, he knows what he did wrong. He is a very good man, stop bashing him.

The story that ostriches will stick their heads in the sand when they are frightened is a prevalent one. The idea is that the ostrich will feel perfectly safe and believe that they are completely hidden, so much so that a person can walk up to them and pluck a feather or even capture the bird very easily.
I just passed by the main office of BISD and say a bunch of ostiches...
Oh come on...got look at the other bisd candidate for tsc. Self promoting left and right and is bffs with the bisd higher ups. Its who you know folks. A lot of complainers here but the bisd only works for bffs and top dogs. If you are a regular teacher or staff, forget it, they take out the bisd policy and legal and all sorts of bs.

I've noticed Vera commenting multiple times in here. He's already in trouble for playing video games with students using District property and now this. I don't have anything against him, but all those saying that he is a saint are very far from knowing the rammificarami and implications of what he's done.
