Does anyone remember the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey in Cameron County?
Don't blame you if you don't. In fact, there was no damage reported at all in Brownsville or even in South Padre Island on the coast.
About the only precautions taken locally was the passing out of sand bangs by Cameron County and the City of Brownsville.
So now, less than a week after District 37 State Representative Rene Oliveira was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated after he rear-ended a car driven by a woman on Boca Chica Boulevard and then fleeing the scene, he is hosting a hearing of the Texas House of Representatives Business and Industry Committee – of which he is the chairman – to put local people to work on the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.
Now, Hurricane Harvey struck August 25, between Port Aransas and Port O'Connor and its torrential rains caused heavy damage in surrounding cities, including metropolitan Houston.
At the time, cleanup and construction workers from South Texas rushed to the areas to work on reconstructing buildings, replacing roofing (tejamanil), and other labor-intensive labor. That was almost nine months ago. FEMA also hired relief workers to take victims' damage reports. Some of those – the Spanish speakers – were sent to Puerto Rico to assist victims there.
Whatever work was to be done was probably already done months ago.
Oliveria scheduled a hearing in South Padre Island yesterday and another today in the City of Brownsville where the likes of Ramiro Gonzalez, the so-called City of Brownsville Government Affairs Liaison, will testify on the ample opportunities for local contractors.
To us it is a bit late and a mite opportunistic. In fact, it smacks of s diversion to take attention off Oliveira's legal problems as his runoff election against Pct. 2 commissioner Alex Dominguez approaches. Early voting starts 11 days from now on May 14.
Hurricane Harvey didn't even hit Brownsville or Cameron County, so are these hearings Oliveira's patadas de ahgado?

The meeting at South Padre Island will be at Claytons and will adjourn after the wet T shirt contest and cleavage tequila shots.
The one in Brownsville will be held at of course.. Cobbleheads where he will get hammered, slap someones ass and rear end someone one Central Blvd.
Not to mention, waste contractors time telling them theres no actual work to be done.. ALL OF IT WAS ALREADY DONE!!
This will be his legacy.
Bad story. Texans are still suffering!
Not a bad story. Our state rep is taking advantage of the misery of people who still can't get help, and giving the impression that the storm caused property damage here. The only property damage is the damage caused by our drunken state rep, Rene "Scumbag" Oliviera. Caution, if he really did marry Laurie Sanchez....she is probably more lethal than Oliviera.
VOTE FOR ALEX DOMINGUEZ FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE!!!!
Looks to me like he's doing the job he was elected to do. Why the angst?
OK - its not retroactive.. the damage was done last year.. and almost 1 year later he organizes this meeting.
Its like planning an open heart surgery after the funeral. WTF!
Ramiro Gonzalez is the epitome of things not well done, the ball of lard with a tiny mind, enjoys playing the big politician, with the great ideas, poor water boy.
The only WTF is you. There are roofers from all over the country in the Harvey area. The question is why was Brownsville unable to send workers? Answer - there is no job training in Brownsville for the workers. If this meeting shows a need for money in Brownsville for job training how would that be bad?
You people are so easily taken in. This was scheduled months ago, You really believe in a matter of days Oliveira was able to get the committee members to agree to this, set up both locations and get everyone here that fast? Like the committee members have nothing to do. People are on many committees and now is the time they are listening before the election so they know which Bills to file. God the lack of intelligence is this town is incredible.
Signed WTF
With all respect to my Community, I spoke clearly about the Representative, I went to Austin, spoke with Ethics office and The Seargent at Arms about his mis conduct. When Mr Oliveira came towards me one night grabbing his area between his legs, I realized he was a disturbed perverted man that needs therapy. Close to half a dozen women have called me to tell me that he proposed to them and promised home and a car only to end up leaving them . I hope he gets therapy.
If drunkenness was Rene Oliveira’s only fault, it might be forgivable, But 30+ years representing and maintaining the status of the poorest area in the USA is reprehensible. Don’t lose focus.
No shame, disrespectful to his constituents, thinks that he represents an affluent district which makes him the laughing stock at the capital.
He uses his position to enrich himself, his family and close friends and NOTHING ELSE.
Pinche joto he's got to go...
Yep
I am UNTOUCHABLE cried the BLACK Manna Ren'e Olveriera who else can get away with what I do. I am only frightened of the mongoose as he has the goods on me. Why do you think I say nothing when he slanders me.
Nobody go to Cobbleheads !!
cobbledicks
puro maricones
One day Ren'e Oliveria the BLACK MAMBA will be taking with his grandchildren when they will ask him, Why do people call you a scumbag grandpa. The BLACK BLACK MAMBA replied they are just sounding off, his grandson replied Daddy said that that is slander, the BLACK MAMBA replied,it is only slander if it is not true. The grandson replied so you are a pimp, a tax fraud an embezzelr,a cocaine user a drunken bum, and you will duck a frog if it will stop hopping, Grandpa you are famous.
Even a drunken bum would not want that legacy.
grasping for straws, patas de hogado...
