A spokesperson from the school said the field day is an annual event to let the students bid goodbye to another school year. That is what all schools needed today and many administrators provide a good last day for their students who worked hard all year long. BISD needs to include this type of activity once a week to allow teachers more academic freedom in teaching enrichment material that the students need to know about life in general. They are tired of being taught how to fill in bubbles correctly. We outscore so many districts with educational programs and also in showing them that in spite of our enrollment, our kids and teachers have been able to provide a safe environment at our campuses. When my child prefers to go to school instead of taking a trip with me to San Antonio, I am assured that they are happy at school. I thank BISD for providing such great opportunities for my children. We, should as parents, volunteer in more of their activities if only just to show support for our teachers and administrators. We are lucky to have our kids in a safe environment, but we should not forget to constantly remind them that they need to respect those that are showing so much interest in the education and future. Whoopie, I got carried away, but for my 3 kids at BISD, I will do anything and everything. Have a great summer, teachers and administrators and remember to take some time for yourself. I know that deep down you will be "continuing your education" to prepare for an early start next year and another award-winning academic year.

Blogger 3:01 - where do you live? May 9th the kids were testing. Where were you that school was out? The only reason you all complain about the vacation time for both students and teachers is because you have to now take over the responsibility of caring for your child during the day. You were used to getting them home at 5:30, already fed by the district and let them play with the expensive toys, and put them to bed -asleep and not bothering you at all. And again, study the school schedule and see the actual days teachers get a vacation. They do not get paid vacation time. They get paid a yearly salary based on 9 months increments and have decided to divide the amount by 12 months to get a check for the summer and not have to apply for unemployment compensation like so many others do. How many times do people need to explain that protocol for people like you who don't seem to understand. The above comment was telling us that students are dying to talk to someone with their concerns and even problems and turn to their teachers for guidance and just an ear that listens. If you only knew the content of some of the conversations the kids have with us, the teachers. And yes, I am a teacher and extremely proud to call myself one and most of all to see my ex-students succeed and make of themselves more than the example they got from their parents. I welcome you to visit our "carnival" and try to reach some of the unruly kids that you send us from home, yet we are able to care for them and 20 or more alongside them. Maybe they need some "inflatable parents" with a positive attitude and not the "hoe-syndrome" of give me, give me, give me.
I am sure you will be thinking of teachers these 2 months you will have your kids at home and waiting for school to start. I do remind you that you will get lucky because you kid will be starting a week earlier the coming year, and the teachers will "donate" a full week of their vacation time to address the needs of your child. Yes, I am angry and frustrated and thus this long comment, but when we try to control and teach some of these young kids who have no home-up-bringing, it gets to me that teachers are held with such low respect. You may also not forget that one teacher that probably made you who you are, or maybe you were one of those kids who never had a teacher that knew more than you. I apologize to all who had to read this long comment, but enough is enough!

This is great. Would of never thought 12, 13, 14 year olds still did bounce houses. These are kids that do drugs, have sex, committ crimes and disrepect adults any chance they get. Their participation in this activity just proves that if kids have avenues, options, and exposure to healthy, active, age appropriate activities they will choose the latter. Regardless of how many months teachers work, the nurturing and exposure to certain environments falls on the parents or in our community the grandparents since a big portion of children are raised by granfparents while the parents are in jail, at work, or in rehab. Kids are kids we need to treat em as so.
Argue what you want. We get 5 months off if you want to include weekends and charro days, spring break, winter break, thanksgiving, and 10 sick days a year. Momma didnt raise no fool so I went to school, and stayed there. Sure i sacrifice the imported car, the mansion and the fancy clothes but my job is rewarding and i have lots of time with my own family. Dont hate the player hate the game. By the way there are tons of alternative certification courses and yes we are hiring if you are up to it.

You so frustrated that all you do is resort to name calling? Surprise, you're not the only one that pays taxes but teachers do, as well. Because the district splits up the 9 or 10 month contract into 12 months pay ,the district has earned bank interest by doing this.
Several questions for several bloggers! Where do you work, if you do? What do you pay taxes on? Your free rent homes? You despise the educators, so that is your thing, so why don't you home school your child, since you are so brainy? Why do you hate teachers? Did someone do something to you to scar you for life? You are upset because of the breaks in the school calendar because it means you have to worry about your huercos now at home who sleep all day long and play with that free phone you got through the taxes that many in the teaching profession pay for with their taxes. Why do you assume that because somebody complains they are on welfare or illegals, or that we are BAD PARENTS? Thanks for replying. The professors at the higher education institute where I recieved my masters degree always encouraged dialogue. I posted arguments for both sides of the story. I enjoy teaching and stimulating. As for rights, I served my country (hence my 4am run). Change is always good and always instigated by conflict and diffrence of opinions. Notice none of my postings show agression, insult or demean either side. Enjoy your summer, come to the beach and maybe we can chat over a few.

Change happens by listening and then starting a dialogue with the people who are doing something you don't believe is right. Name calling and insults will get you no where and what an opportunity lost intrinsic motivation, intrinsic reinforcement were sent packing.
