Mr. Cesar Lopez recently announced that he is stepping down as President of the Board of Trustees.
Mr. Lopez was first appointed to the board in 2013 and was then elected to a four-year term in November of 2014.
He has been the Board President for one year and six months and has dutifully served in various committees.
In keeping with district policy, Mr. Carlos A. Elizondo assumed the duties of President of the Board.
(The idea that Elizondo, who is facing 15 charges or theft and breach of security after he allegedly logged into the City of Brownsville fire department computers and is out on bond pending his criminal trial on those charges, can be made president of the BISD board is ludicrous.
Lopez was said to have been under family pressure to step down as president of the board. He will remain on the board. Both have filed affidavits of conflict of interest in relation to two firms doing business with the district.
The board must now vote to make the changes official.)

Being an Educational institution for children how can they (the school board) appoint a person that has a questionable moral character and has being indicted by the district attorney numerous times.
Ethics and moral character are fundamentally related to what kind of persons we are. This utterly is unacceptable and a grossly misuse of authority and lacking in their responsibility if the board appoints this person as president of the board. Do what is best for the children of this community.
SHAME a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior will be the feeling of this community if you, the board, decides to appoint this person as president of the BISD Board.
Moral, ethical, virtuous, righteous, noble, mean conforming to a standard of what is right and good. Moral implies conformity to established sanctioned codes or accepted notions of right and wrong. Ethical may suggest the involvement of more difficult or subtle questions of rightness, fairness, or equity.
It is not a question of innocent until proven guilty but HOW did he get to this level? Completely lacking in moral character, unethical, not conforming to a standard that WE all live by, a standard which is right and good.
Make the right decision and appoint a board member that has his/her heart with the children if not for you but for the good of this community.
MAKE THE RIGHT APPOINTMENT.
A dime in bet, Elizondo will walk clean free, his wife will feel she owns RHS counseling (if you read the BISD book of rules she works for an institution of which he would be directly responsible *NEPOTISM, but then again, until TEA gets involved NOTHING will happen.
BISD doesn't hide their corruption, they put it on display for all to see. Elizondo has been idicted....but BISD publicly makes him President of the Trustees....just like Tony Martinez accepted a racist as a city commissioner. It's the old boys acting like old boys...public corruption seems to be applauded here. No leadership, just corruption as usual.

We are telling our children that you can lie and cheat and still be a president of a school board. We are supposed to be role models! students talk about what is going on and laugh at these adults actions. Nothing will ever change in Brownsville because the board thinks they are entitled to what they have gotten plus more. It is a shame that people talk and talk but don’t vote when it’s time to put people in office
Dr. Atkinson, if you would only promise to behave and act for the good of BISD and not be so vindictive, I would actually campaign for you to become the next president, but it is so hard to do when we are smart enough to know what your game is. It is time that after so many incidents, you make it your main objective to push for what is right and not for what you think should be right. I think you could run an efficient board, provided you decide to become a sincere and honest person and not so vindictive. Everyone knows that
about you and for some reason are afraid to let you know, even your friends.
Montoya is not dumb, this is about board members being in a position of trust that took an oath to provide vision, priorities and the best resources for our school children. They cannot fulfill the requirements of their positions when one member has an indictment hanging over his head, another has personal problems which has caused him to resign as president, and yet another spends most of his board work recommending sports equipment for the district in order to pocket a commission. How can we ever trust this board to be productive when there is so much personal dysfunction. This is about having morals, values and decency in order to lead our district and unfortunately, some of these board members don't have these qualities. Too bad they can't be fired. Ha!Ha! 8:27, where have you been? The Atkinson's work only one way and if it is not their way, it is the highway! They will never change! She made a mess in Los Fresnos, Santa Maria, Eagle Pass, Socorro ISD, BISD, and Rio Hondo. Why? Because she thinks she is above everybody else. She should go back and check where she comes from and be grateful that you were able to succeed. I remember working with your Mom and aunts and uncles when we used to ride the trucks at 5 in the morning, that would take us out to the fields to do an honest day's work, but it was honest and nothing to be ashamed of, but when you make thousands and thousands of dollars and feel you are better than someone, it will one day come to hunt you. I wonder what makes them feel like they are the cream of the crop? How can you really even think about supporting her for President. You should be asking when her next election comes up.
Was Cindy not with the district before Carlos got on the board? If so, it does not break the nepotism laws, right? The only thing that I see wrong is that the nepotism law is used wrong - just as long as you don't vote for the item that refers to the relative or promotes the relative, it is OK? Rules are not changed to fit the situation you are looking for.
All taxpayer funded agencies have the same system-get rewarded if you screw up, that way you can be there 50 years.
Elizondo should move to change the working time schedule of ALL teachers from 9 months to 12 months. You do that and you will become the gran savior of this community and will be re-elected forever...

8:27 you really don't know or don't remember what happened when SPA and her ex were both moved from Hanna and then when SPA was suspended from BISD before suing the district and moving to Rio Hondo? Do you not or were you not around when those two things happened because the person who did those things to her was the same person and now is out to get her at no holdsbarred.
Everyone knows that she is very vindictive. How can someone actually think she could run a board of trustees?

All will be members of the Black magic club, with $200k salary. They say that the Black Mamba Rene Oliveira is going to be president.
Money and corruption over children BISD is a total corrupt agency and the state needs to come down here and investigate ALL the elected officials.
