What a beautiful scene! Let's make good use of it and see how long we can keep it as beautiful as the picture and for us to put into good use - pride of Brownsville History started here in 1850. The city should set up a community come-see-walkobia for the public. Now, when will the rest of downtown get it's complete lift?
Dumb hillybilly redneck racist republican doesn't know that Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States and Puerto Ricans are by law citizens of the United States.
Stupid dumb ass hillybilly redneck racist republican...
Too much money for nostalgia The people that lived the history are dying The young folk dont remember Next well hear lets re open amigo and woolworth's
In a previous comment a mention of the night crawlers despite the beautiful buildings by day. If at night the Brownsville downtown area is so creepy with don't the cops patrol it? Why doesn't the college sociology classes assign some students to do a study? It's too bad we have such fine buildings only to be disgraced after dark. The poor homeless population includes a few innocent drug induced psychos. These psychos are not only downtown but all over the place and even during the daylight hours. They are the panhandlers some who are sleeping till noon on the bus stop benches. Why is it that no one seems to know how to cope with it? If only we could give them the medical and or mental cures so that they might eventually get jobs or something instead of disgracing the City. I know we should be compassionate but it effects our economy. The City should make a habit of taking these poor people someplace when their mental and medical conditions could be addressed properly. Otherwise like the countless ducks over populating the waterways it is only going to get worse. I wish I has a magic wand.
As long as the people are not willing to assist in some sort of community effort to help the homeless in a restructuring so they integrate as part of society; nothing will happen. Sending them to shelters that keep them for several hours and sending them out to the streets for the better part of the day is not helping but enabling them to continue the destructive behavior that has led them to where they are now. It is more than a meal a day or a bed to sleep in; it is the duty of society to see that this stops; unfortunately the selfish behavior "WE" engage in does not allow us to see beyond our close-minded little life. It takes a group of educated, caring individuals to do the change, but yet the educated "book" educated lack sensibility and morals. It is the duty of the educated to educate for a better society.
"An educated person should responsibly use their education", like the creation of the atomic bomb, weapons of mass destruction, the electric chair, poison gas, persons involved could have used their education to achieve different ends. Was that their duty?
Perpetuating the human species is not possible if a large number of people have as their goal to cause harm.
How easy could it be, for the educated society, to create "ANY THING" that will benefit all mankind. An educated person is also responsible for using his or her gained knowledge in a way that does not cause harm, but they have. You poster at 12:17 have had the better part of your life to engage in a constructive manner to right some of the wrong perpetrated unknowingly to the homeless community. Now we are living in an era in which insults, insinuations, discrimination against non whites that most often drown out the honest attempt for honesty and integrity. What are your thoughts for improvements?
I thought so "NONE". Poster at 12:17 you just gave the city and ALL other tax funded agencies a reason to create a new position. It will most likely paid any where form 80k to 100k with all sorts of benefits. Not withholding it will most likely be crated for some relative or close friend (payback). Remember that in this parts of the woods nepotism is given.
Ideas are many; the implementation of such ideas or thoughts take time; time that is apparent you are not willing to give; but you sure are willing to judge poster at 10:54. Talking to the homeless, taking the time to listen would be a start, teach them how to shop and cook their own food, instead of serving it to them; have them do it themselves. With all the empty buildings downtown it is a shame there are homeless in town. I am not giving anyone any reason what so ever to open jobs that according to you are not needed, you seem to be part of educated that do more evil than good. God save us all from individuals that can not see further than their nose! its an allegory!! meaning your opinion to me goes as far as your nose. Have a nice day! p/s If you can't say anything constructive try, and I insist try not to say anything at all! If we all donated time these jobs need not to be created! the idea is to help not to milk the system!!!!!!
You seem to belong to a small minority that instantly believes that IF nobody embraces your ideas you succumb and retreat and insult and attack others that are not in your level of thought.
We've seen it before somebody an out of towner a visitor or even somebody just a passer byer or even a do gooder recommending to develop "something" to help, improve or even prevent from something happening or to avoid from something happening.
Just like the beautification program, the plastic bag fiasco, the bike trails, now recently the handicapped position. All have failed "why" ideas from the north that are not needed.
What is needed here is that the elected officials prioritize the "NEEDS" of this community and its citizens, and not listen to outsiders on what WE need. As a priority we don't need bike trails, plastic bag bans, develop some type of programs to benefit the homeless, or handicapped and to tell us not to cut down trees.
We DO need to address these issues but not to spend millions and millions of dollars, to develop special jobs and departments. Bike Trails-most citizens here live on a day to day basis but they pay their taxes and other required responsibilities and most can not afford to purchase "bikes" and fancy attire to ride them.
What we need is more industry more technology jobs NOT retail sales jobs nor MORE restaurant and fast food jobs.
If you consider this evil in my part I am gladly and happy to continue with my ideas. Talking will get you nowhere in this world so that is out of the question. Milking the system is also out of the question which is what I have always advocated not to do. As far as my nose I am not a German so I have a really small nose and am glad so that people like YOU don't get close to my space.

Open the Queen theatre, the Star Drive Inn, Texas Café, Resaca Club, Victoria Theatre, Kress, Mr. Q on Boca Chica, Coca Cola and the street made with bricks around the Coke building and of course the carnival stands in the downtown area during Charro Days...
Nice photos. Thanks. Brownsville is looking good. Congratulations to City fathers!
Re-take these same photos at night so you can see the difference. Los cucarachos, taquaches, aranas y vivoras salen de noche.
