HELL IS FOR CHILDREN: PROVIDE SAFE HARBORS FOR KIDS

Because hell, hell is for children
And you know that their little lives can become such a mess
Hell, hell…

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

If you have kids in local schools – private or public – you might want to have that birds-and-bees conversation you have been putting off and hoping their mother would do it.

Image result for witch with appleIn the wake of settlements by the Catholic Church with the victims of pedophile priests, count school teachers among other potential perverts. One sends their kids to school thinking it is a safe place as any. Next to the church – oops – it used to be.

Like priests, not all of them are suspect. But there are enough bad ones out there to exercise caution.

There have been cases where teachers have become involved with students (males with females, males with males, females with males, females with females, etc.) in the past in Brownsville public and private schools.

The latest was the arrest last Tuesday by the Brownsville Police Department who charged a BISD teacher with having an improper relationship with a student.

The police said that Juan P. Gomez, a social studies teacher at Stillman Middle School, was accused of having an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student while serving as a youth group minister at classes held at St. Mary’s Catholic School. The class, we have been told, was not part of the school which only goes to the 6th grade. Texas law prohibits relationships between educators and students.

Alfonso Gutierrez Jr., interim administrator for public information at the Brownsville Independent School District, said Gomez was placed on administrative leave on April 16 because of the allegations.

“The district obviously takes measures for the safety and the well-being of all of our students,” Gutierrez said.

Gee, that's great Alfonso. But why weren't parents at the private school warned back then that  Gomez might have been a wolf in sheep's clothing teaching students about the Lords' word and about resisting temptation and respecting the innocence of children?

Obviously, that task of warning the young about the existence of predators among the teaching staff – including a youth minster of all things – must fall on the shoulders of us parents. Students must be made aware that there are bad people among the good, and that the enticement to evil can come from all quarters.

Giving them you blessing at the door when they depart is not enough. Include the reminder that evil is all around and that they should be constantly aware of it. Provide safe harbor for them when they encounter it.

Pat Benatar knew it without visiting Brownsville:
They cry in the dark
So you can't see their tears
They hide in the light
So you can't see their fears
Forgive and forget
All the while
Love and pain become one and the same
In the eyes of a wounded child

Because hell, hell is for children
And you know that their little lives can become such a mess
Hell, hell is for children
And you shouldn't have to pay for your love
With your bones and your flesh

It's all so confusing this brutal abusing
They blacken your eyes and then apologize
Be daddy's good girl, and don't tell mommy a thing
Be a good little boy, and you'll get a new toy
Tell grandma you fell from the swing

Because hell, hell is for children
And you know that their little lives can become such a mess
Hell, hell is for children
And you shouldn't have to pay for your love
With your bones and your flesh

No, hell is for children

Hell, hell is for hell
Hell is for hell
Hell is for children

Hell, hell is for hell
Hell is for hell
Hell is for children

Hell, hell is for hell
Hell is for hell
Hell is for children

Hell is for children
Hell is for children

The elected official's priority is How are we going to benefit from all these contracts?

The administration How are we going to cover up all these questionable spending and incompetence among our employees?

The clerical help Nobody to complain about all the favors and promotions with pay raises to people that don't deserve it who to complain?

The instructors How are we going to get more assistance so we don't have to work TOO hard?

The kitchen I wish we could tell somebody about the waste and over spending but who?

The labor How can we unite to get better pay?

Forget about the security of the children THEY have more important tasks...

His relationship was not at St. Mary's Catholic School, which is a K thru 6th grade. He was a youth minister at the St. Mary's Church youth group. Not the school..... He is a full time teacher at Stillman.. he was never a teacher at the St. Mary's Catholic School.

They're so busy covering their behind and how to pocket more money that they don't care about perverts roaming all over the place.
This is really serious I would think twice about sending children to that agency.
This place is starting to REALLY STINK!!!

And what a shame that it is the adults that bring a bad name to BISD because the kids certainly shine!!!

To warn parents of unproven allegations, is to ask to be sued, for the really big bucks.

Citizens will welcome a forensic audio and internal investigation of all areas to prove once and for all if they really are just allegations. FBI or any other agency would do.

His time with Bubba and friends is coming, we shall soon see how brave he is.

The spouse of this perpetrator, who had full knowledge of his transgressions as a youth minister and teacher, chose to say nothing
To alert the church for his removal. The priest at this church(who fired her husband)allows his wife to sing for the mass, as though there was no negligence on her part by not disclosing that relationship to church leadership. With all the scrutiny the Catholic diocese has had to endure, her being allowed to retain a roll at mass, paid or unpaid, is a slap in the face to those of us who have expectation that the Clergy and Ministry will protect our children and teens while at mass.
