Los Tres Malos--Joe Rodriguez, Carlos Elizondo and Cesar Lopez--want Laura Perez-Reyes as the next Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) Board of Trustees President. If she doesn't want the post, they want her to vote to keep Elizondo--facing eleven felony counts--as president after the sudden and mysterious resignation of Lopez.
"Laura, who holds the balance of power in her hands, doesn't realize that she is making a pact with the devil if she succumbs to the wishes of Los Malos," said a longtime educator. "The truth is coming to the surface regarding their outrageous exploitation of the district's budget to benefit themselves. All three are facing reelection and there is a fast-growing crusade to throw the trio out of office. They are shameless in their actions to promote their own self-interests. If she were to crawl into bed with these scoundrels, she would be cheating on the community.
"Rodriguez, Elizondo and Lopez epitomize everything that is deplorable about Brownsville politics," continued the BISD veteran. "El Rrun Rrun's Publisher Juan Montoya has detailed this trio's excesses that are nothing less than treacherous. Is Laura going to risk her chaste reputation joining these miscreants under the sheets who for all intents and purposes would infect her with their political AIDS?"
Perez-Reyes has become the board's swing vote as Los Tres Malos find themselves pitted against trustees Phil Cowen, Minvera Pena and Dr. Sylvia Atkinson. The board meets Monday to vote for a new president because even two of Los Tres Malos recognize that leaving Elizondo as president is an untenable position although in a worse case scenario they would support him if Perez-Reyes didn't want the presidency but would vote for him. Los Tres Malos are desperate!!!
"It is sad, but 'Big' Joe has cast a spell over Laura," said a former Brownsville Herald columnist. "The old man still has that charisma to charm the gals and Laura seems smitten with him Platonically. But she needs to realize that 'Big' Joe has a longstanding reputation of hitting them and quitting them when they have no longer served his purposes. Just like Trump is ultimately loyal only to himself, so is 'Big' Joe."
Cowen, Pena and Atkinson, who have insisted on putting education before economics and academics before athletics, will not vote for Perez-Reyes because they would be doing Los Tres Malos' dirty work for them.
"If Perez-Reyes wants to survive politically in a volatile time when BISD and county elections in the fall and city elections in the spring will have opposing factions pulling out their long knives in historically unprecedented bloodletting as the voters decide whether to move forward with visionary leaders or fall backward with the same bought-and-sold politicos, she has to decide who is her favorite among Cowen, Pena and Atkinson.
"Siding with Los Tres Malos would be an unforgivable sin. A good mother and a good wife would never do something so terrible."

I agree but Laura could prove every wrong. I have seen her in action at board meetings and she is not afraid to speak her mind when she see it is wrong for the children. I would rather see her take the bull by the horns and set things straight starting right now instead of waiting for the elections and continuing on with wondering what will happen if and when, or how the 3 amigos will act. There needs to be a form of unity to have a 7-0 vote on all issues or a 0-7 if not favorable to the district's children. Laura may lack hands-on-experience right now but she is a quick learner and her heart is in the right place so maybe that would be the answer to the problems we now face. Someone needs to address each board member with the truth and with the expectations they were sworn to honor. I hate to believe that there is actually a situation that allows for so many of us to actually wonder if it is true or not about kick-backs and all that going and coming under the table. If it is there we all need to do something to fix it and we can all start by voting.

Laura, strong woman with her own mind, she will make a great Board President. Don't pay attention to McHale, all his political predictions are wrong and he's full of shit.
I don't know her but the fact that she was elected indicates that a lot of people believe in her. I say give her a chance to prove herself. A school board trustee must have good judgement and common sense and I am sure that Laura's experience in the courts will be beneficial to her in determining what is right for the school district and what is not. Besides, los tres malos may be exiting soon.
Omg, She would never turn on Joe Rod, He helped her get elected cause he hated Presas-Garcia. I would love to see Presas-Garcia run against Joe Rod. That would be a good race. She's got my vote.

I've come to realize those you refer to as "los tres malos" are really los mejores de los otros tres malos, Cowen, Pena, and Atkinson.
Well, I'll be! Some one has actually come to their senses and finally realized where the 3 malos actually sit at the board table - to the right of the president. Laura is her own vote and she holds no favors for anyone. She needs some experience, but it won't be long before she is president and you will then find out how the cow ate the cabbage. Laura, stick to your guns.
