UNBEATEN MATA REPRESENTS MEXICO IN WILLIAMSPORT, AGAIN

By LittleLeague.org

Matamoros Little League from Tamaulipas, Mexico, will be heading to Williamsport this August as the representative of the Mexico Region following a 5-3 victory over last year’s representative, Guadalupe TreviƱo Kelly Little League, in the 2018 Little League Baseball® Mexico Region Championship.

Throughout the course of the Mexico Region tournament, Matamoros Little League was able to combine for 59 runs over the course of its eight games while shutting out its opponents on three occasions to seal an impressive 8-0 record, the only undefeated record in the tournament.

This will be the fifth time (1990, 2001, 2006, 2008, 2018) Matamoros Little League will make an appearance in Williamsport, 10 years after taking home the International Championship title in the 2008 Little League Baseball World Series before falling to Waipio (Hawaii) Little League in the World Championship game.

Matamoros Little League will open the 2018 Little League Baseball World Series with a first-round matchup against the Australia Region on Thursday, August 16 at 5 p.m. in Volunteer Stadium on ESPN.

Spanning the course of 10 days, 32 games will be played in the 2018 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, culminating in the Championship Game, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 26.
