Special to El Rrun-Rrun
One of our favorite scholars hands down has to be Guadalupe Correa-Cabrera, who was a researcher and instructor at UT-Brownsville a few years ago.
Lupita, as her students and colleagues called her, is now an (Ph.D. in Political Science, The New School for Social Research) Associate Professor at the Schar School of Policy and Government, George Mason University.
While heere, she encouraged young up-and-coming researchers and mentored many of them to raise their expectations and seek higher level of scholarship.
Her areas of expertise are Mexico-U.S. relations, organized crime, immigration, border security, and human trafficking.
Her newest book is titled Los Zetas Inc.: Criminal Corporations, Energy, and Civil War in Mexico (University of Texas Press, 2017).
She was recently the principal investigator of a research grant to study organized crime and trafficking in persons in Central America and along Mexico’s eastern migration routes, supported by the Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons.
She is now working on a new book project that analyzes all aspects of Mexican irregular immigration in the United States entitled Mexican “Illegal” Immigration in the U.S.: A Human Problem.
Dr. Correa-Cabrera is currently the President of the Association for Borderlands Studies (ABS). She is also Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Non-resident Scholar at the Baker Institute’s Mexico Center (Rice University).
You go, girl!

Congratulations. Keep up the good work.
Proud of her courage but most of all because she is a pariente por los Cabrera. Hopefully this article will not profile her among the pandillas.
Terrible professor. I bet she's there because of "equality" and "women of color"
I miss her too. Her class is where I first heard of El Rrun Rrun.
I first heard of this blog over at El Mante
Lupita is a terrific person and a prolific scholar. The poster who commented that she was a terrible professor either never observed her teaching or else received an F in a class with her. She was an excellent classroom teacher at UTB and an individual dedicated to teaching. I knew her well and worked for her when she served as an administrator at UTB. She was excellent. But haters gonna hate.
Must be a right wing ultra conservative redneck hillbilly racist REPUBLICAN hater. They're all over the place like worms coming out of the wood work.
There are no real scholars down here. There were some, but they just used the local shit hole university to get a foot in the door. They move out on and into America proper, as soon as possible. America starts north of the Sarita Checkpoint. South of the checkpoint is La Frontera where the majados, pochos, nacos and assorted Meskins live.
Yea real scholars (majados) I guess its time for you to go back to your brothers the rednecks and hillbillies, the REAL scholors forth generation food stamp and welfare jethros. When and IF you go back hide all your female companions. Cracker face
3:06 "REAL scholors"...that should be scholars. "Forth generation"..that should be fourth. White people were called "crackers" by black people, not because of the color of their skin. They were called "crackers" because the slave masters cracked the whip.
You are not only a racist, but an ignorant one at that.
Its called typing for pendejos and cracker face refers to the saltine crackers that has a similar appearance to the faces of gringos cracker face ignorant fool...
This is not a college thesis paper nor a dissertation for graduation. This is a blog and nothing else. Misspells and other grammatical errors are allowed. Idiot
You whites always have to come up with the race thing, and you call everybody else a racialist.
To stupid teacher at July 6, 2018 at 9:59 PM
Must be one of those stupid teachers always complaining and always blaming somebody else the blame game never stops with these stupid teachers.
Changing the subject slightly. Lupita got out of UTRGV just in time. I heard that over 50% of the faculty are not supportive of the UTRGV President, Guy Bailey. The rumor is that he is reclusive and only appears now and then. How much does he make a year to be UTRGV President? I also heard from Brownsville students that UTRGV is a disaster for them, that the old UT-Brownsville was the better option, but thanks to our sterling legislative delegation, the UT-RGV campus at Brownsville is just an off-campus facility to what really is UT-Edinburg.
