The Mexican representative to the 7Ist Little league World Series is out of the running after losing to Canada by a score of 6-4 in the annual Williamsport epic. In another elimination bracket game, the Houston- area reps fell to a Georgia team.
The Mexican team - represented by a team from Matamoros - fell behind early in the second inning 5-1. A three-run blast by Fernando López got them to within two runs and made it a game.
The Matamoros nine failed to score in the sixth and final inning and ended up with the losing 6-4 score.
Mexico beat Australia but then lost to Korea and ended up in the elimination bracket against Canada.
And the dream run for Post Oak Little League, from the Houston area, also ended Monday night after the team dropped a 7-6 game in extra innings.
Houston's team held a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning after a two-run home run by Ryan Selvaggi.
But Georgia tied and even after Post Oak led 6-5 in the eighth inning, they allowed a hit and a walk that led to a game-tying run at 6-6 in the bottom half of the eighth. After going cold in the top of the ninth, Post Oak allowed Georgia to score the go-ahead run.
