SHAME OF THE BISD: CANALES ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN

(Ed.'s Note: While the Brownsville Independent School District board and administration fell over themselves trying to spend the $120 million over five years and naming facilities after their cronies, the state of some of the BISD buildings on school campuses have become hazardous eyesores.

Take, for example, some of the buildings that are still on the J.T. Canales Elementary campus on International on the northern fringes of Southmost.

Although they are no longer in use, they have been allowed to deteriorate to the point where they constitute a danger to students and people who may have to work in the area. In fact, the buildings have been left lie fallow for so long that some of them even sport burglar bars, long prohibited by the fire code.                                                                                                                                                                                   Parents from Canales sent us these photos and say that the old buildings have been falling apart for years and have been visibly deteriorating. They are afraid some curious kids may wander among the ramshackle buildings and get hurt by a rotten beam or cut by glass or a piece of corrugated metal sheet.                                                                                                                                                        The condition of this campus would make most administrators cringe in horror. Will it take concerned parents to get the new board to nudge the administration to action to remove this hazard? We'll see.)

Wow! Mr. Ude, have you addressed any concern regarding this hazard on your campus. Teachers, have you taken any action? Parents, keep going and don't stop until you meet personally with Dr. Zendejas and set a date for demolition of these buildings - maybe during the Christmas Holidays. I think those building have been there since it was first known as Lincoln Park around the 1960's and since then over 12 superintendents and maintenance administrator have done nothing about it. This certainly is something that should be on the priority list of "safety in the schools" so maybe they can use the grant money to address it. Don't hold back; go sit in Dr. Z's office and if you have to wait for her, do so! I am sure she will attend to your concerns!

They're inspecting the fruit vendors at the 77 flea market, must have a netting over all the fruits and the fruit vendors over at the PD on 6th and 7th are exempt. The flea market is on the other side of the tracks.

Juan get the national news to look at this and then look at the new score board and fire the official in charge.

Teachers, have you taken any action? WHAT? They're planning for their next vacation. Three months OFF with pay what a scam. Do you think they care about their surrounding and the students??? Oh I forgot its in their contract ha what a joke...

Go to Putegnat elementary,Perez Elementary, El Jardin, Resaca. You think parents and teachers have not complained? They can complain to the new board and hope someone listens since the old board NEVER did.
The schools mentioned need floors, ceilings, sidewalks, a/c's, but hey a school district that looses close to 2,000 students a yr. has a 1 million dollar scoreboard (REALLY UGLY, by the way)
Rivera HS has close to 9 portables falling apart, positions closed, this was RHS 30th anniversary, but hey, don't ask for celebrations, you have a new indoor facility for sports, even though your sports program is really poor, so you see, Mr. Montoya, it DOESNT MATTER, because we criticize Trump for the Me, me, me but at the end of the day it only matters if its ME who is affected.

Just close the school. Send the kids to Yturria or Stillman

or IDEA Public Schools, Inc is a not‐for‐profit Texas corporation formed in June 2000 that operates charter schools and does business as Individuals Dedicated to Excellence and Achievement Public Schools.

Better and newer schools, better teachers that respect the citizens year round schooling.

How can uncertified teachers at Charter Schools be better than certified teachers? They can't pass the test so they settle for the charter for 2 or 3 years or until they pass the test. Then they come running back to BISD for better pay.

These schools are not like your local tire shops memso. Unlike the state schools districts where they hide abuses and the abusers continues to teach and/or reassigned and that's only the tip of the iceberg.

These are classrooms nobody has access to except for custodians and other maintenance. Regardless of what image the OP (prolly a maintenance person) is trying to project about the school, these are the classrooms in the back locked away from everyone who works or attends classes there. Obviously these old abandoned buildings could use renovation but the board members and superintendent would rather give themselves raises. The less repairs put into the schools, the more money you have for raises for yourself and your criminal friends. This doesn't fall on the campus but with the person who is in charge of allocation of funds
