WHY EXACTLY WAS IT CALLED THE NEGRO BRIDGE?

(Ed.'s Note: Please excuse the use of the offensive "N" word, but the fact is that the terms was widely used here in the past. However, we have also heard that 1.) Black workers built the bridge, 2) that black soldiers camped here, 3) that black soldiers were hung there, and a myriad of other versions of how it got its name.

In the postscript by Schmelling above (click on graphic to enlarge), he gives lie to those versions and says the reference to blacks was the fact that when local Mexican workers were building it, they came in contact with black loam dirt and that they appeared to be black. Which version do you believe?

For a deeper treatment on the subject, see Bronsbil Estacion Javier Garcia's post at http://bronsbilestacion.blogspot.com/2015/08/legends-and-myths-from-nigger-bridge.html   from which we took these graphics.)

Ignacio Dominguez, the police lieutenant whose arm was amputated as result of Brownsville Raid, cleared-up this urban legend behind story and the text written by Schemlling supports his claim but good ol' Ralph could look you in the eye and tell you that Buffalo Soldiers were guilty of shooting up Brownsville in 1906 so when it comes to history you cant trust the historians of the time neither although both men were alive and well when 1906 incident occurred. I used the "N" word because that is the historically correct term used by populace at the time and readers at my blog can handle that easily -- your snow-flaky cretin rock hater friends on this page can't handle grown-up shit.

No need to apolgize for the "N" word. If a Browntown Councilman can use it and suffer no consequences, then why should you. It is now an OK work in Browntown.

Great historical fact that we Brownsvillites should be aware about. We have lived here all our lives and we don't make an effort to know our past.

A snowflake is one of God's most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they STICK together.

So its ok for you to use any kind of insulting terms just because they were used in the old days and in these times its ok for you to use terms of abuse and to ridicule the handicapped.

If grown up shit consists of accepting racist-symbols embracing hatred violence segregation and slavery please continue calling me/us CRETINS. I or we would rather associated with the majority of this country.

As for your readers you're luck if you have more than two or maybe tres- idiota

Just like we used to call our slingshots, nigasuras! Just like we used to chant, Eenie, menie, miney, moe, catch a nigger by the toe. We never knew what we were actually saying for we just repeated what everyone else was saying.

I lived in Lake Charles in the early 60's and the white kids would go out at night to the color neighborhoods with slings and used them to break house windows and other things. I am guessing here but if you put this word together it really means just what it sounds like just add shooters at the end.

Just like over at Resaca Elementary as the kids there asking permission to go to the restrooms "Mam may I please go to the biscuse"? May I please be excuse to go to the restroom
