Meet Brownsville Independent School District interim superintendent Dr. Sylvia Ann Reyna Hatton, out of the Dallas area.
The BISD board voted unanimously to hire her while they perform their nationwide search for a permanent replacement for Dr. Esperanza Zendejas, who was placed on administrative leave pending a review of her performance before deciding on a final termination.
She earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from UT-Austin. Her most current employment was serving as an educational consultant for the Region 13 Education Service Center in Austin.
Previously, Reyna worked at San Antonio's Edgewood school district.

Sylvia is from La Joya originally, Hidalgo Co. Worked in McAllen, Region One ESC, retired from there.
Let's hope they use a search consultant that has experience with NATIONWIDE searches....there are some big ones out there...

You have the wrong Sylvia Reyna. She never worked in Dallas or Fort Worth. This Sylvia was the Executive Director at Region One.
Another woman for the head job in the BISD, more problems, look at all the problems going on with women unleadership in school campuses.
WOW! I'm speechless on how fast a replacement was found. What ever happened to the national search? When is Brownsville gonna learn? Another resurrected old comadre, just like Zendejas was a few years ago.

You are right; she does not hold a superintendent's certificate but they just plan to have her hear until they fanegal things to push Dr. Z out. The lady is not to blame since she was hand-picked, but I certainly hope that she doesn't get stuck in the Atkinson-Pena-Tipton-Brown spiders web. She just has to make certain that the district does not tumble and mess up all the hard work Dr. Z has done and all the improvements that have followed under her lead stay afloat. If she is leader-teacher she claims to be, she do well in what she does, but must remember that the Mexicans down here are all a bunch of crabs pulling each other down. she also needs to watch her back cause we have a lot of knifes being thrown around in BISD. I do admire her for taking the risk of emerging herself in this cess pool that does not flush the excretion sent out by envy and jealousy.
Go for it, Dr. Hatton and prove to all that you mean business. check out and let yourself be pulled down with all the micromanagement that sinks up the main office.

If she does not hold a certification for Superintendent then that wkuld be grounds for removal for any of the Board Members that Voted for her.
