400 BIKES FOLO: AMB. TREVINO DEVISING BRIDGE BIKE LANE

Image result for bicycle foreign policy
By Juan Montoya

Ah that Arturo Trevino,  President of the Mr. Amigo Association.

One day he is overseeing the fiasco of asking Arturo Elias Ayub, billionaire Carlos Slim's son-in-law, to be this year's Mr. Amigo, and the next he is acting like the self-appointed Ambassador of Goodwill between Matamoros and Brownsville.

It was bad enough that Ayub snubbed the parade-goers at the Saturday Charro Days International Parade and jetted off to the Mexican Tennis Open, but now he is using the association's funds to give Mata students who attend schools in Brownsville 400 free bikes as a away to increase international crossings in a deal he says he personally negotiated between the Mexican government and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The wait times at Gateway Bridge can be long, but Trevino says he can bridge the problem through a new bike lane proposal.

To start the proposal, they started with a new bike program.

"When we had that event called, ‘Hands Across the Border,’ he actually committed to donating 400 bikes to help get that program going,"  Trevino said.

After we posted bout the bike giveaway on this blog, Trevino told CBS 4 that the reason for specifically donating 400 bikes is to fulfill a verbal agreement.

"If we can guarantee 400 crossings a day on that bridge. I can definitely go into designating a bike lane for this bridge," he said. He said organizers with Mr. Amigo are still working out the details with Customs and Border Protection to get the bikes into Matamoros. Trevino hopes the donations lead to the developing of a bike lane. That way more people can utilize the additional space and cut down wait times.

Does Trevino have a diplomatic rear channel to U.S. and Mexico state departments that can allow him to take a lead in developing  foreign policy? And does he know that Ralph Cowen already reigns as the Brownsville Ambassador of Goodwill ?

We'd love to see the diplomatic pouches between both countries to see where the bike-lane over Gateway Bridge is coming along. And will Customs and Border Protection assign agents to inspect the 400 cyclists who will use the bike lane? That bridge and its approaches from Mata are already congested with vehicular traffic and asylum seekers. Where will the bike lane go?

And who will pay for the millions it will probably cost to expand the width necessary to install the lanes? Does Trump know about this in  Washington, or Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador en el D.F.? We're sure they will lend him an ear. After all, he owns a number of convenience stores which should give him the needed cachet to catch their attention.

Maybe Trevino can call on his good friend Ayub to put a bug in the ear of Trump and AMLO, if the millionaire hasn't flown off to some sporting event.

Congratulations to Mr. Amigo for the Goodwill gesture.

is he retarded?
people crossing on bike are coming for handouts such as free esucation or cash their food stamps. people on bikes have low paying jobs, they pay no property taxes because they live in Mexico and pay minimal bridge fees! 400 less pedestrians isnt going to make a dent at the bridges.
what they need to do is have the port of brownsville offer a shuttle to all their employees that live in matamoros! also they need to make it manfatory for BISD employees to live in this country. alot of BISD employees lives in mataflies. once the employees start living here then maybe the students can be required to live in the USA.

Great gesture Good man

Ok first of all the Mata kids that come to school in Brownsille drive Tahoes and Beemers and think they are some how better than the Brownsville kids that live here.

There are no bike racks at St. Joe either.

Stupidity at its highest representation, who in his right mind would think, a simple bicycle line will shorten the Border Crossing time, ta menso el veto!!!

Anonymous said...

We will never see any type of bikes crossing the bridge how stupid can the charro assh be? Do you think in your right(left) mind el pendejo trump will ever agree to such a pendejada??? The racist republicans will never allow such a stupid idea. The charro assh is nothing but a group of crones that feed off each other and suck off the citizens of their hard earned money NOTHING ELSE.

Soon, all the students in Matamoros will be going to school here on our dime. BISD needs warm butts to fill the seats of students now in Charter schools or fleeing to more districts where they can get a real education. BISD has failed the community, but has opened its doors to students whose parents pay no taxes in order to receive state and federal funding.

Anonymous said...

To attend BISD, you have to live in the district, because that is who pays taxes to fund the school. If hundreds of kids commute each day on bikes or otherwise, that is illegal as hell. It they attend private schools that is another matter.

hahahah attend private schools
clearly you have not seen the sea of blue (porter) and red (cummings) polo shirts at the Gateway Bridge aka el puente nuevo going to or coming from mexico, before and after school

Is the charro asso condoning illegal activities such as encouraging, soliciting that people living in mexico travel here and get an education illegally. Isn't that illegal and will any enforcement agency have the intestinal fortitude to start an investigation????

THIS IS "UNBELIEVABLE" AND TO JUST THINK "WAS IS NEXT"!!!

@7:58 am lol.... how about billions of dollars worth of trade that come back and forth everyday through the bridges, how about all the oil we stole from Pemex and its being refined in Corpus and then brought back through our sea ports and then "trucked" to them. How about all the natural gas that is being bought from us, and it goes down the pipeline that was built close to the port. How about the millions of dollars of investment that has transform the whole valley from a bunch of ranchos jodidos, to ok cities, how about the culture etc...... Come on, there's a reason "rich" people from Northern Mexico look down on us, and with comment like yours, pues lo tenemos bien merecido. Ay que pensar antes de hablar.

PINCHES PENDEJOS...

OK, you have lots of Mata children violating the law and mooching a free education from the BISD taxpayers. So what is you point? You want to pay taxes to educate the Mata larva?

I have NEVER seen or heard this charro asso donate any gifts to children and students of this community during christmas. NEVER EVER! Now they give bikes to matamoscas students which they will never receive. How stupid can this organization be?

Para el falso director en March 22, 2019 at 10:51 AM

Mexico is currently our 3rd largest goods trading partner with $557.6 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2017. Goods exports totaled $243.3 billion; goods imports totaled $314.3 billion.

What the shit are you talking abt? Mexico exports more than it imports not including all those mojados that come in here illegally and work for pennies disrupting the economy of the RGV. That's not counting the majority come here and apply for entitlement programs (welfare to you).

The improvements in the RGV is called PROGRESS and not because of mojado land.
NO SEAS IDIOTA...

SOON we will see bikes park at mechanic joints, tire shop joints and car washers riding bikes, and most students here walking to their nearest school which is 10 miles away next to a highway where trucks transport dangerous chemicals drive by heading to mojado nation, bola de PENDEJOS.

Wow Juan. I didn’t realize how many racists we have in Brownsville. Your article sure stirred them up.
The purpose of a dedicated bike lane isn’t for grade school kids. It’s to make crossing faster,
by getting people out of their cars, and onto a bike.
Customs is short on staff inspectors. One inspector takes 4 minutes or more on average to clear a car.
That same official can clear a bike rider in 30 seconds or so. Duhhhhh. No brainer right ?

US Customs said they needed 400 crossers to justify such a change. A fast way to do it was to give bikes
away to UT an TSC students. Not BISD kids. College kids all pay out of state tuition.

So pls instruct all these racist pocho comentators to lighten the fuck up.

Ps. Pls simplify yr boring tedious approval process video game

La verdad duele who cares about us customs maybe that now the city is giving away the fort maybe the city can sent over some of the city employees and run some of their inspection huts duhhhh. How can they do that, simple no brainer RAISE TAXES ...
Maybe the port need more police security the city too can sent some of their cops over there, this being the poorest community in the nation we can sure afford to fund the us customs and the port and any other municipality, agency or county maybe the charro association can help sinde they are in the giving mood!!!
Oh well its just me being racist. Did I say gringo or mojado?
At least we can agree and be civil about it that "I am not a robot" is acting up again.

ps: I lost count on how many stories they have about the free bikes.

Anonymous said...

Who in us customs told you that they need 400 more people to cross? Isn't that type of information not shared because of security concerns? I think somebody here is not telling the truth. The feds should investigate who is releasing this type of delicate info.. This is very serious.

Anonymous said...

Juan please instruct all of us pochos to lighten the fuck up and this is coming from a pinche mojado. US Customs will NEVER release such info no seas estupido

400 is the number announced by Mr Tater, the port director at Gateway bridge, at a recent local
Chamber of Commerce hosted public breakfast.

Public information to anyone who is involved in trying to help our community, like Port Director Tater, and our chamber of commerce.

Anonymous said...

Oh so whoever heard it on a breakfast decided to donate 400 bikes? So no meeting took place no request was made and no body said that they would open another lane "OFFICIALLY". WOW this is even more unbelieveable. I thought the port director was that ex city and pub employee.

Anonymous said...

On a junket to china he decided to stay there hence a new director I believe that's what happened but as always this could be wrong.

@march 23 @ 1:25 pm

So we do trade billions of dollars? No?

So you’re so called “PROGRESS” wasn’t financed by Mexican national money?

Pero bueno, if you want to bury your head on the sand, y quieres seguir hechandote mentiras tu solo. Allá tú.

Did he announced 400 bikes or pedestrian or vehicles or birds and did he say crossing the river or the bridge. Right now they can't handle the traffic its always backed up and they have only two huts open and they are asking for 400 more crosser. Isn't that stupid? SOMEBODY IS NOT TELLING THE TRUTH TYPICAL...

Those trade figues are nation wide and not locally, so you take pride in spreading false statements. If your beloved tierra is so dear to you, what are you doing HERE? Like your favorite usa president keeps saying and in spanish "REGRESEN A SUS TIERRAS VOLUNTARIAMENTE O YO LES ALLUDO.
Remember 20 pesos equals a usa dollar.
The mexican economy has and it still is one of the worst in the WORLD and you blow your horn that it is helping our economy?
GIVE ME A BREAK NOW I'VE HEARD EVERYTHING.
