EXAMS IN BABY WIPES BOX, A PERFECT SCORE...SUSPICIONS

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Firefighters are still talking about fellow Marco Anzaldua who placed Number 1 with a perfect 100 percent score on the 2019 Brownsville Fire Department Drivers Exam.

They extended congratulations to Anzaldua because they say that last year, after intensely studying for this exam, he only managed to get a 70s percentage score. After the results were posted, he immediately received his promotion.

But this year, they say, he got a perfect score!

They say his mother, Becky Anzaldua, the Civil Service Director Secretary, must have been very proud, especially because she arrived to the testing site with the exams in a baby wipe box. (Photo at left taken on day of exam.)

When some firefighters approached Ben Nunez, Sr., the Civil Service Director, and told him about their suspicion that fraud and cheating might have occurred during the examinations and asked him to convey their congratulations to his secretary, for her son getting Number  on the driver’s exam,”  they said he brushed off their suspicions by stating, “She’s not my secretary.”

Some firefighters say that when firefighter Anzaldua didn't score well last year, they were "held up" until this year's exam was administered.

They were surprised that Nunez did not address their suspicions but rather that Anzaldua wasn't his secretary. Now many are looking for ways to address these apparent inconsistencies.

Will the troubles at Civil Service and the Fire Dept. ever end?

In Brownsville, we don't just accept corruption, we demand corruption. And, we sure get corruption, from the top down here. When a mother carries the test scores....nepotism seems a possibility. The mother should be ashamed to put herself in such a questionable position, and Ben Nunez, Sr. should be bitch slapped for allowing these shenanigans to go on under his nose. Makes us wonder what Ben got for looking the other way. Leadership in the BFD has never been strong and this is another example.

Cheating on a test prison time stealing money from the BEDC credit card made president commiting fraud to pay for your whore, letting the Mayor watch. Welcome to Brownsville

This story is at least I’ll informed, or maybe it’s blatant lies, I’m not sure. I work for the fire department and most of this shit just not true.

Simple the people making a fuzz about this are non other than your own firefighters who probably only barely got a GED and are incapable of ever developing common sense to understand when people work hard and study they get good grades, something they will never learn to do. So for all u haters F@&K YOU!

Anonymous said...

Whoever posted this is a person that must of taken the test and probably got a grade in the 70s and under and was not able to get promoted and now is crying about it. What you need to do sir is study hard like the rest of the ones that did. I know for a fact that a lot of the guys that did get high scores and got promoted is because they studied hard. Obviously you’ve been taking the test and cannot pass enough to get promoted. Have you ever thought of studying???

Marco Vega should of been a driver

If you're going to call people out for their lack of education, you should probably learn the difference between "fuzz" and "fuss."

The professional bystander a pump operator driver???

Any BPD cop could kick any firefighter's ass. Truth.

hey everyone cheats now and then just look at the college entrance scandal going on, so BFD exam scandal es papita

Pump Operators don't just stand around. They are responsible for getting personnel safely to the scene of an emergency without endangering our citizens, make sure firefighters get the proper pressure so the firefighters can extinguish fires, plus run computations to ensure proper pressures, and bring down equipment that maybe needed. Don't sell them short, they very important to the Team.

This isn't the first time civil service has come under fire (no punt intended) https://www.brownsvilleherald.com/news/local/commissioner-ernie-hernandez-indicted/article_826d0d3a-8464-11e3-ac17-001a4bcf6878.html

Remember Ernie Hernandez in 2014?

Firefighters that got promoted as Drivers is because their scores were the highest in the test and it was due to hard work in studying. If Marco Vega didn’t get promoted is because his scores were not on the top 5 probably not even on the top 10. So no he doesn’t deserve to get promoted. The key is to study hard just like the rest of the ones that did and whoever is making accusations of cheating needs to stop and get over it.

The City Managers Secretary, Becky Anzaldua, is the one that everyone goes to to sign up for any civil service exam, so did her son actually sign up or did mommy do that for him too? She is also the one who orders the exams, huge conflict! Those exams are delivered to her office she is the one who has them and she was even at the testing site that day. Her and son did not even exchange words, they acted as if they didn't know each other. No fellow firefighters, when asked, ever saw Anzaldua crack open a book before exam was posted or after. She could have very easily kept an exam from the previous year and shared with her son, or ordered one extra and opened the box from the bottom so that the top of the box that is opened in front of all at testing site shows it hasn't been tampered with. Anzaldua could have gotten the exam the previous night and had all of the answers. From what I gather that would be alot for him. Come on don't make it evident and try to miss one or two, just saying. Is this guy in the right state of mind to be driving around our city, getting to calls making sure everything is how it should be for our firefighters to fight any fires, arrive to calls on time or even get there at all? Everyone knows he wasn't well for a time because he could not handle his job and for a moment was giving his own personal items away for co-workers to work his shifts because he had no more time to exchange. Firefighters are not stupid as everyone likes to think, EVERYONE on the list matter the grade are questioning how this guy could get a perfect score which is very different from the previous exam. If he, his mom and the Civil Service Commissioner have nothing to hide, order another set of exams, based on the number that were on that list, but please do not have the secretary order them, and administer the test again and see if he scores a perfect score again.

Family members/spouses/close friends should be removed from any process to avoid conflict of interest or allegations of cheating and other serious misconduct. Maybe the mayoral and city commission candidates can answer questions about addressing such instances if or when they take office.

So did the city manager ever start an investigation?
