MOVING DAVIS MEMORIAL TO PARK INSULT TO VETERANS

By Antonio Castillo
From Brownsville Herald
Image result for taking military oath
Editor:

“I, Antonio Castillo, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the president of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”

This is the oath I took when I enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1999. I am a now a veteran.

I come from a line of Americans who proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The names of numerous relatives are engraved at Veterans Park.

To suggest moving the Jefferson Davis memorial to Veterans Park is an insult to those of us who took the oath to remain loyal to the United States of America and its people.

The Feb 19. article, “Sticky history,” stated that that I was a former resident. I am a seasonal resident. My job takes me to different cities across the country. I come back to Brownsville during big breaks, especially in the summer. I will continue to invest in my hometown. This includes making our parks welcoming to all residents and visitors.

Racist traitors do not deserve to be memorialized on public property. The Jefferson Davis memorial does not belong at Washington Park. Speaking on behalf of proud veterans, it surely does not belong at Veterans Park either!

Antonio Castillo is a real hero here in the USA.
To speak this way, to defend the Veterans and to write his name.....just imagine all the anguish he has suffered seeing that the authorities do not listen to the Brownsville residents when they asked the political leaders to remove the stone!

Antonio Castillo for Brownsville HISTORIAN.

This Castillo pendejo came here for a few years, claiming to be a college professor, which he was not. During his short time here, he did his best to stir up trouble that was not here. He managed to fool some folks, again mostly not from here. He left and continues to use the blog to stir the shit pot of hate and disunity.

This man deserves no respect or admiration. He is nothing but an outside agitator. I doubt he ever served a day, but will play the veteran card when it suits his purposes.

The rock is not the problem, it's these type of people that stir up trouble. They want to make the black people always the victims of southern people. This History of American events cannot be changed because it's over. This Castillo guy doesn't speak for all the veterans. That statue of Lopez at the veterans park was no part of Brownsville. He was not born or raised or went to school in Brownsville. But a giant statue was made because Cameron county wanted to make someone famous, Brownsville was part of the Confederate states, so why not move Brownsville into Mexico. Let these racist people have their way.

I AM NOT TO TRILL TO SEE THAT STONE BEING PUT AT THE VETERAN'S PARK BECAUSE THE CITY COMMISSIONERS HAVE NO IDEAL WHAT TO DO WITH IT!!!!INSTEAD THEY WANT TO DISPOSE OF IT ON GROUNDS THAT RECOGNIZES OUR LOCAL VETERANS WHO GAVE SOME AND ARE STILL LIVING TODAY AND FOR THOSE VETERANS WHO HAVE PASSED ON AND ESPECIALITY THOSE WHO GAVE ALL DURING COMBAT THAT BEAR A CROSS WITH HONORS!!!! THESE VETERANS SERVED HONORABLY WHO ARE ENGRAVED ON THE WALL FROM THE FIRST WORLD WAR ALL THE WAY UP TO THE PRESENT TIME WERE OUR MILITARY IS WALKING THE WALL OF FREEDOM!!!! WHAT HAPPENED IN THE 1800S HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH FREEDOM WE HAVE TODAY FROM AGRESSION FROM ABROAD AND NOT A CIVIL WAR THAT WAS FOUND ON THIS LAND BETWEEN AMERICANS!!!! I THINK A SPECIAL MEMORIAL SIGHT NOT THIS ONE FOR THIS ERA BETWEEN THE UNION AND THE CONFEDERATES SHOULD DISTINGUISHED THAT WAR WITH THERE OWN PARK!!!! I GAVE SOME AND MY NAME IS ENGRAVED ON THE WALL AT THE PARK ALONG WITH OTHERS WHO ALSO SERVED TO DEFEND THIS COUNTRY SO FOR THIS STONE TO BE PUT ON THESE GROUNDS JUST TO PAWN IT OFF IS A AN INSULT NOT ONLY TO ME BUT FOR ALL OF THOSE WHO'S NAMES ARE ENGRAVED ON THE WALLS AT THE PARK FOR SOME WHO ARE ACTIVELY SERVING IN THE MILITARY!!! PLEASE COMMISSIONERS DON'T DISGRACE OUR VETERANS WITH A STONE AT THE PARK THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DEFENDING THIS COUNTRY!!!!! PLEASE...………….

Jefferson Davis was repatriated by the U.S. Congress. He is a historic figure in American history and as a veteran whose name is engraved in Veterans Park, I would welcome "Rock". This issue should have been settled long ago, but our Mayor has no "huevos" and can't make a decision. Move the Jefferson Davis Memorial to Veteran's Park!

NEGATIVE....DO NOT MOVE THAT STONE TO THE VETERANS PARK!!!! I THINK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE A DEBATE BY THOSE VETERANS OF BROWNSVILLE AND THOSE VETERANS THAT ARE STILL LIVING AND ARE ON THE WALL AT THE PARK!!!! AFTER THOSE DEBATES THEN LET THE VETERANS HOLD AN ELECTION TO DETERMINE IF THE STONE COMES ONTO THE PARK!!! I STILL THINK THAT STONE HAS NO BUSINESS BEING ON THAT PARK...DAVIS MAY HAVE BEEN A VETERAN BUT CERTAINLY NOT IN THESE ERAS!!!! MAKE A UNION AND CONFERERATE MOMORIAL PARK JUST FOR THOSE VETERANS WHO WERE ALL AMERICANS KILLING EACH OTHER!!!!! THIS WAS THE ONLY WAR THAT RESULTED WHERE AMERICANS KILLING AMERICANS!!!! SMART?????????? THE PRESENT PARK REPRESENCES THOSE VETERANS WHO SERVED ABROAD AND WHO GAVE SOME AND THOSE WHO GAVE ALL!!!! WE WERE NOT KILLING AMERICANS BUT DEFENDING THIS COUNTRY FROM FAR AWAY COUNTRIES!!!! PERFERRED TO TAKE THE WAR TO ANOTHER COUNTRYAND NOT HERE IN THE U.S.!!!!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! KEEP THE STONE OUT OF THE PARK.... POSTING MAY 20, AT 3:15PM!!!! HOPE YOUR A VETERAN POSTING THIS BLOGG....IF NOT YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT EXPRESS YOUR OPTION ON WHAT GOES ON THIS VETERAN PARK!!!! POSTED BY USMC DISABLE VETERAN AND ON THE VIETNAM WALL IN THE PARK!!!!!

"as a veteran whose name is engraved in Veterans Park" yea right typical gringo one of the 20 million that went to woodstock and 50 million that went to nam puros pinches mentirosos.

Remove the plaque that is on the memorial and donate it to the Jefferson Davis Presidential Library in Biloxi, Mississipi.

Come up with a new plaque, and maybe a statue, then re-dedicate the memorial as a memorial to the union soldiers who were members of the US Colored Troops who were wrongly accused during the Brownsville Raid.

The soldiers returning from Viet Nam received a disgraceful return with no respect. This was terrible, but today there is way to much overcompensating and Vets are treated as sacred cows. Today's military is all volunteer and folks joined to get the benefits. They did good service and deserve their benefits and respect. Respect, but not worship. They are not super human beings and some of them are bad people. Military service does not compensate for character.

Jefferson Davis was a United States Army veteran and a former Secretary of War. He deserves a place in the park as much any anyone. These screeching vets, should back up and not take themselves so seriously. Thank you for your service, but you are not anyone special. Your opinions hold no more value that any other citizen of Brownsville.

Antonio Castillo was not a coward KBRO, you were rude and a bully. Agree to disagree but do not call another man a coward. You have to get in his shoes to understand why he is fighting racism. Every time you go by the park, you have to remember that humans were cruel to other humans. White masters checking their slaves: their teeth, raping the women, having children with slaves, not feeding them correctly, and not paying them wages for ever and ever and ever.

We are ashamed of our past and our past leaders that did not do much to help the African American people. Now we destroy them in the media, and they are given few opportunities to be successful.

Recently the Editor of the BV made these comments on the subject of the Davis’s Rock at Washington Park:

“I have written extensively on this. Dallas went through the same thing with a "whites only" sign over a water fountain found during remodelling. Historians and the black community went back and fourth and it was decide there was more value in keeping it as a history lesson.

It blows my mind we have a world wide crisis of churches and people being attacked because of their faith and you spin this into a stupid discussion about a rock.” BV April 29, 2019 at 2:51 PM

“I have documented Steven F. Austin's letters wherein he warns the north that if the slaves are freed the men will rape their white woman.”

“Historical figures who were strong supportes of slavery are displayed all over Texas, and even Washington. When you get serious about a full house cleaning then maybe someone may take you serious.” BV April 30, 2019 at 7:52 AM

They want to put a symbol of slavery in veterans park that is just NOT acceptable.

"We are ashamed of our past and our past leaders that did not do much to help the African American people" words of an apologist -- weak and worthless since you never have to apologize for the actions of others dead or alive

KBRO how is Mr. Castillo a coward? Is it because he refuses to argue with you? I met him two years ago and follow him online. He can whip up a crowd of 30 to 50 people in an hour. He was helpful last summer dealing with CNN. I believe he's in Austin or San Marcos right now. My niece worked with him on a few projects.
