GARZA PULLS THE ENDORSEMENT TRIGGER PREMATURELY; DA MAYOR STAKES OUT A MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROAD POSITION

And later,

(Ed.s' Note: It appears that foiled City of Brownsville District 1 commissioner candidate William Garza's announcement that Mayor Tony Martinez had agreed to endorse former city manager Charlie Cabler in his runoff race against Trey Mendez was a bit premature. After he posted the announcement that former and current Cameron County Clerks Joe Rivera and Sylvia Garza-Perez, respectively, and Martinez, had endorsed Cabler, he had to post a retraction by Martinez, an later Garza-Perez.

After Martinez remonstrated in the post on his Facebook account, Garza asked if he would like the endorsement withdrawn. Mendez's supporters were gleeful on the unexpected turn of events given the fact that Tony's son, another "Trey," is already on the Mendez bandwagon. Historically, both have maintained a united political front.

The Tony Martinez post indicates he is taking no sides - at least publicly - in the fray. It's still early in the game with early voting set to begin four days from now on Monday June 10 and the dust might settle on this brouhaha before  then. Until then, well see how the jockeying develops.)

What an idiot William Garza. If he's really on Cabler side...why the heck do you want Martinez endorsement? The people voted him out and he's the worst mayor ever. Cabler really dodge a bullet having Martinez as neutral!

This has got to be the endorsement that NO candidate ever wants to receive.

William basically is saying - If you want the next 3 decades to be exactly like the past 3 decades - vote for Charly.

LOL... fucking beyond moronic.

Voting for Charlie Cabler all the way. The most qualified and experienced candidate, we need a full time Mayor that will get things done such as basic municipal services like street maintenance and proper drainage. As Former city manager he was often override on prioritizing services and budget issues. Seemed that back in those days building bike lines and bike trails was the priority instead of providing true municipal services. Downtown rehabilitation was also a major objective and took a big chunk of city budget. Hope Mr. Cabler gets elected and get things straighten out, let's focus on providing services instead of pet projects. Let's build more sidewalks and bus shelters instead of useless bike lines.
