A FOREST OF SIGNS: CYNDI HEADS AND SHOULDERS ABOVE

(Ed.'s Note: The parking lot a the Cameron County Courthouse on Harrison Street in downtown Brownsville has become a veritable forest of political signs for upcoming Democratic party primary in March 2020.

Signs cover virtually every corner of the block-long parking lot asking that you consider casting your vote for the candidate. And even if you don't see the signs at eye level, others have made sure you see them from a block away like Cyndi Hinojosa's sign for JP 2-1. Hinojosa, a legal office manager for her husband, is challenging incumbent Linda Salazar as is Fred Arias, a retired federal lawman.

Arias has reported that some of his signs have disappeared and taken down by vandals, perhaps working for the incumbent. Salazar's minions include politiqueras and politiqueros who have been indicted and convicted of vote harvesting, so this kind of "work" would not be above them.

She, like Cameron County incumbent Luis V. Saenz, have hit upon the idea of putting their signs on wooden stands that make them visible from a distance above the others. For now, Hinojosa literally is  "head and shoulders" above the rest.)

As per City of Brownsville political sign ordinance, yes, they are illegal. But does she care and know the city will do nothing? Any politician unwilling to follow simple ordinances tells you they do not give a shit about rules. They want to get in at any cost. Just look at those she and Gilbert have supported. Sylvia Garza Perez, the Lucio’s, Ben Neece, Jessica Tetreau, Cesar de León, and the list goes on.
