COB PUBLIC WORKS WORKERS OFF TO A BAD DAY....

(Ed.'s Note: With the entire front right wheel assembly sunk in the flooded entry to a construction site, two City of Brownsville Public Works staffers had no idea there was no curb under the puddle and drove right into the hole. Not wanting to make matters worse and further damage the truck, they called for assistance from the city instead.

We know what it's like to have car troubles in a busy thoroughfare like Central Boulevard where this mishap occurred - according to one of our seven readers who took this photo - so we can be a bit sympathetic with the embarrassment of the two workers. No one was hurt, we are told, except for a couple of wet, bruised egos and maybe the tire assembly.)

Bicycle riders, however, are more prone to serious injury when they cruise through a puddle, foolishly believing that the charco is surface water-deep, only to find themselves flipping heels over head as the front bike tire comes to an abrupt halt in a 12-inch deep hole. A result of shoddy street construction and maintenance, these holes, in the thousands, pop up like broken mirrors all around our town's streets to  remind us that still water sometimes does run deep.
