NewsCenter 4 is reporting that Brownsville Independent School District board member Erasmo Castro was arrested by the Brownsville Police Dept. and spent part of the Labor Day weekend behind bars after he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
Castro was reportedly pulled over and arrested early Monday morning at the 900 block of Morrison Road. He was arraigned this morning.
Brownsville police reportedly arrested Castro at 1:37 a.m. at the 900 block of Morrison Road, police said. He was released on a $1,500 bond.
Monday morning he mentioned the arrest on Twitter and Facebook.
"Early this morning I was detained. Because it’s ongoing case I can’t comment on it. I ask my family and friends for your patience. I understand if you opt to unfriend me."

As a member of an independent school district that is the largest employer south of San Antonio, an expected role model for our children and as a public servant who has fiduciary responsibility for our hard earned tax dollars, this man should be ashamed.
People keep on commenting that our political system in Brownsville is a sham. It will continue to be a sham until people get out and vote. When you have less than 10 percent of the registered voters voting, we will continue to have elected officials voted in by a minority of politically vested and vanity driven individuals; some of who have no business running for office.
The school board, if it has any semblance of responsibility, will resolve that this action should be admonished and this member removed.
Enough! Board members please take him out or follow San Benes model.

Seems that local politicians have a tough time finding a designated driver when they are out drinking. Erasmo is an embarrassment anyway, and this only adds to his reputation. Too bad the locals also have a bad habit of covering up for their fellow politicians. As long as voters put these assholes into office, there will never be a positive change.
