SCHOOLS OUT! TIME TO FRY IN THE SUN WAITING FOR THE BUS; OR AVOID STREETS WHEN IT RAINS FOR HALF AN HOUR

(Ed.'s Note: Schools out in one of the downtown barrios and mom and dad go pick up their daughter. They ride the bus. There are no benches to sit on. There is no shade to protect them from the blazing summer sun. This is a scene that is repeated hundreds of times throughout the city. Yet, the city commission is pacified when the management team at BUS come before them and promise them that there are shelters going up as they speak, only to find out that bus shelters are the last priority for that bunch.
The priorities of the city are also under question. Will they continue to swallow the pipe dream that we are going to be the center of so-called "active" tourists who - according to commissioner Rose Gowen - were going to spend millions to ride the bike trails she has directed public money to attract? And every time it rains we get flooding at well-known places throughout the city.

But, hey, providing good drainage is not as sexy as putting on a Spandex bike outfit and jumping atop a $500 bicycle for a couple of hours through a shuttered downtown where business owners must grit their teeth and lose business when city workers and police on overtime barricade the downtown streets so cyclists can pedal around for a few hours and take selfies.

“The Engineering & Public Works Department will aim to execute capital projects for improvements to City infrastructure, with an emphasis on streets and drainage,” a city press release about Gutierrez’s selection states.

Ok but does he know anything about POT-HOLES MAINTENANCE? Will he address the priorities of this city and say BIKE TRAILS BIKE LANES AND BIKE SIGNS ALL THE WAY TO LOS FRESNOS AND PORT ISABE ARE NOT NOT PRIORITIES!!!!

When I see the first pot hole repair after he starts working I will say welcome to the poorest town in the country brownsville texas...

Please guys! Give the new PWorks Director time to fix all the problems. He just got his ass here. Let's see what he does in the coming months. The Engineering department didn't do shit, but scratching their balls! Carlos Lastra should be removed, now that there is a real Engineer taking over.

Rose Gowen needs to ride her bike everywhere she goes, she really needs it to lose all that weight!

Women in six U.S. states are now effectively allowed to be topless in public, according to a new ruling by the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.

First, Gowen needs to ride her bike out of town and stay there.

Second, that scene at 7th and Madison is what the normal has been for that area since I was in elementary at Putegnat School and where some of us could have drowned when we stepped off the side walk after school. If it hadn't been for Margaret Clark who has taught us all how to swim at the Fort Brown pool, many of us would have not survived, but we sure did have fall going back and forth and pretending to fall into the water. So, since the 50's, that has been a problem and nobody has ever tried to correct. What makes anyone think they will get to it now. I have a picture of the neighborhood kids floating down 7th street on inner tubes that was republished in the Herald recently.
I have the original picture, so I was one of the ones that didn't drown but did get a good spanking from our parents and grandparents. Now the spanking should be done to the city commission, comenzando con la chisquidad de Gowen.

Street maintenance and drainage has never been a priority. Top priority has and will always be building more bike lines, bike trails and Cylovias. Thousands of dollars are spent monthly painting and maintaining bike lines that hardly anyone uses, only because it's someone's pet project. Election time coming next year, hopefully, voters will elect someone who will make street maintenance and proper drainage their top priority.

"CITY ALERT-CITY-ALERT"

The city has a crack team of bike lane specialist to conduct counter guerilla warfare and clandestine operations in maritime and barrio environments that is protect and defend and stop the removal, by unauthorized citizens , of bike paint lanes and other objectives too sensitive to mention here. The team is run by a 6 star general with experience in extremely dangerous garbage removal objectives that no
other person volunteered and remains anonymous like the commenters here.
