BEERFEST AN EXAMPLE OF FABRICATED "NEW $$$ TRADITIONS"

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Now we've heard it all.

Did you know that the "organizers" of this year's "Beerfest" could not elicit enthusiasm among local restaurants to ply their wares at this now-annual celebration that they had to be paid to participate at the event?

Several restaurant owners say that they got $150 apiece for every entry that featured their food. The event was another Arturo "Turi" Trevino, Eliseo Davila production.

You know Turi, he has fabricated the last "new traditions" like Noche de Garibaldi, Gringo de Mayo(?), etc.,  and Davila, administrative assistant to Cameron County Pct. 2 Commissioner Joey Lopez, apparently was seen hustling restaurateurs and selling tickets during working hours compliments of the county taxpayers (at a $43,271 annual salary).

Oh, the event website states that the event is coordinated by volunteers. Who wouldn't "volunteer" if you still end up picking your county paycheck every two weeks even if you were on other "business" all that time?

The tickets to the event held at publicly-owned park were not cheap. The pre-event prices online were:
General admission - $40/ea.
GA - $35/ea. (with the purchase of 2 or more)
VIP - $100/ea.

At the Door
GA - $50/ea.
VIP - $100/ea.

For that price, participants could enjoy, according to the event's hype "a new format packed with more value; entertainment, food, beverages, and fun. The BBF Board of Directors is excited to introduce a new all-inclusive and cashless festival experience!

"Your GA or VIP experience will now include, while supply lasts, all food and beverages."

The food, by the way, was available until the restaurants ran out of the stuff they brought. "I''m going to give them a taco of shrimp," said a seafood restaurant owner.

All of the funds underwritten by the participating sponsors go directly to the on-going production of Brownsville BeerFest and Brew at the Zoo.

All food and beverages were included. There was a policy of no refunds. Brew at the Zoo, Beerfest, Oktoberfest, Gringo de Mayo..., hmmm, what's next "Suds and DUIs"? Where do we line up for our $150?

For me the real question is, why would any one pay to attend such an event? There is plenty of good beer and food downtown. I am for the business owners organizing if they want to promote downtown, but this is just stupid. There are so many good places now downtown with good beer and food there is no reason to pay they prices.

Trump's call for CIVIL WAR: The extent of the visceral hatred much of the military feels for Democrats, the “deep state” and the “fake news media” is a new phenomenon. The belief that there is indeed a coup being orchestrated against President Trump is a weapon Trump has in his arsenal, depending how far down the road to authoritarianism he decides to go. But Trump would need to deeply fracture the military first, and that is something to watch for. Most members of the armed forces are honorable, patriotic Americans who would never take part in such a scheme, despite their support for Trump. But a significant portion just might.

Good music, lots of beer, lots of drunks and the food was fair.

Word to the wise, don't worry about paying the exaggerated prices. Last minute when the guest numbers are down, they'll let you in for $10 and you get to party with the VIP!

Honestly, it’s a boring event and it’s been a boring event. There really isn’t anything special to this event and it’s obvious it’s just a cash Cow for Turi and company. Eliseo should be investigated as to why he isn’t performing his county duties (while paid with our tax payer money) while on the clock just like any other respectable employee at any other work place. Like they Juan, if it slithers like a snake, if it looks like a snake, well then it must be a snake.

Interesting that it is mentioned that Joey Lopez's office allows its employees to solicit on the tax payers dime. Joey Lopez is one of the county Commissioners that wants to double his pay and all the other elected officials. If Joey's office does so little that he can allow his employees to solicit for "Beerfest", then he doesn't deserve the pay he is getting now. Why is Joey Lopez so greedy???? He surely isn't very effective as a Commissioner, except for eagerly spending the taxpayers hard earned money.

Where are the city inspectors those stores need to be inspected for RATAS and cockroaches and need to be CLEANED.

I saw a sign on a public parking lot that read that DWI's will be enforced to the full extend of the ^&U*(joke).

Alejandro (alex for you gringos) is introducing a peso bill that prohibits parking in a parking lot a 5th degree felony to park drunk in a parking lot.

Trump is in favor of the Texas bill and wants to add that la migra has the right to as for papeles.
