METRO Connect will use then TIGER grants to acquire eight new hybrid buses, and Brownsville Metro stops will be improved, including the construction of Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks, ADA-accessible ramps, shelters with benches, and bike stations.
Brownsville Metro Director Norma Zamora said the grant requires that engineering and design be complete by December 2017. Construction must start by Jan. 1, 2019, and be complete by 2024.
U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Brownsville) announced yesterday a $661,342 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program is going to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council. The Weslaco-based council oversees Valley Metro.

The grant will be split to purchase new bus passenger shelters and add amenities in Harlingen, Brownsville and Edinburg.

Too many bus stops like the one in the picture. I saw one nailed to a telephone pole the other day. No place for the handicapped and bus passengers must deal with the lack of seating and no protection from the weather. Time the Metro folks made bus stops a part of their infrastructure planning.

Good day , I am furious. My question is who is the incompetent board members, traffic department personnel that approved a median for Boca Chica boulevard? Do you have any idea how much traffic this is going to create? I understand they are great for aesthetics. But people common? Use your brains a little bit. Our streets can barely handle all the traffic today. Imagine in 10 years. All those businesses that are along Boca Chica will suffer monetary indefinitely. Please, I I am calling on every single Citizen of Brownsville to make a protest. This is the busiest street in the entire city. I need every single person that has any knowledge or authority to stop this catastrophe from occurring. Do a protest share it on social media do whatever it takes but stop this.
If they put a median they should reduce the number of traffic lights. But they won't, because the median is just bad decision making and lack of planning. Boca Chica was right the way it was, all it needed was more traffic control along the frontage area.
Thought the same thing at 3:01pm must have been a local city engineer the same ones that are installing speed bumps as curbs downtown that recommended the change. Can't even syn the traffic lights let along plan for the future...

The one too blame for the traffic lights and putting the median is mickey mouse engineer Carlos Lastra. Now with new public works director it should go better, but Lastra, Doroteo Garcia, Luis Alonso, David Ricon should be removed! Instead of moving each of them to other jobs positions, they instead removed the Engineering secretary to public works. I guess they are untouchable!

Stop the median on Boca Chica ! As it is it take 39 minutes to travel from 511 to Alton Gloor!!!! It will take over an hour in 6 months!!!

Hey 3:01 dummy. TxDOT controls boca chica. The boulevard functions More like a local street than a main artery of the city. Too many conflict points. Too many left turns. The medians will fix that and make it more efficient. You can still get to whataburger by turning left on North St. and going around the block to Los Ébanos you pendejo!
@11:25 Pendejo!Just because Txdot is responsible to do construction or changes on a certain street, does not mean that they don't need city approval. Hopefully, no one dies when accidents to happen.
