Did you by any chance go to the Southmost Veterans Parade over the weekend?
According to some who attended and participated in it, a certain JP actually walked the entire route from International Blvd. to 30th Street and was noticeably winded after the ordeal. We're not saying she was struggling, but some participants said she was laboring with the effort before the end of the route.
JP 2-1 Linda Salazar is running for reelection after 16 years in the position, so she has to be out on the hustings whether she is up for it or not and whether the weather is nice or not. Like work, politics is 85 percent being out there shaking hands and glad-handing the electorate.
But the say her ordeal wasn't over once she got past the 12-block jaunt. Salazar also hosted an event for veterans at the VFW hall that drew just a handful of guys and gals from the post. Not exactly an encouraging turn of events after all that walking through the Southmost barrio.
It must have taken some of the starch from the jaunty JP who is usually at her boisterous self trading jokes and tossing a few cold ones down the hatch. We understand that Linda was MIA (excuse the vet pun) this morning at her office and had her pal JP 5-1 Sally Gonzalez stepped in to take care of her docket.
Once you get to a certain age and carry a few extra pounds it might be wise to curtail some of the campaign activities that require heavy lifting or exerting the old bod beyond a point where it might be deleterious to your health.
